Gunbroker

Recommended Posts

I've never purchased a firearm through gunbroker.com, only accessories and magazines.  I was curious if I buy a firearm through gunbroker.com and do the FFL transfer if I still have to pay sale tax on it?  Not necessarily looking to avoid the sales tax, just an added bonus since I'll already be paying for the background check and transfer fee.

Technically by law you are required to always pay sales tax (self reported) if buying from a business out of state, but many don't.  The FFL will not collect it, you would have to self report. I always do of course  :pleased:

If you're buying from an actual FFL dealer on gunbroker, I know of none who will charge you sales tax unless you are in the same state.

Your local FFL will not charge you sales tax on the gun purchase price either, because he didn't sell it to you.

The FFL you have it transferred to does not collect sales tax on the firearm since they aren't selling it. They are only providing a service.
If the dealer you are buying it from is in Tennessee they will be required to collect sales tax even if they ship it to your FFL. A dealer outside of Tennessee would not collect sales tax.
