She's 10 yrs old, has been hunting with me before numberous times in Indiana but I wanted to check to see if she needs her own licence &/or if she has to attend a hunter safety course before I can take her out hunting with me down here in TN.

She does need her hunters safety course to hunt if she is 10. If you want to take her before you have an opportunity to attend the class, TN offers an apprentice license that is good for 1 year, so long as you are accompanying her, which I assume you would be.

I suggest getting the apprentice license now for spring squirrel, and then attending the class in September. That is when the classes are most commonly offered. A full list of dates is on the TWRA website.

I wanted to take my son (12yrs old) but there are no hunters safety courses within a reasonable distance from my house.  AND since I don't have a license I cannot assist him at all. Too many rules!

Im pretty sure the coarse can be taken online & then you need to do a saturday at the range in order to finish the coarse,a short drive for a legal requirment=a lifetime of fun imo,

Really? That would be cool.

Yes, you can take the course online then attend a scheduled range day. Its a good way to do it too. However, most other states H/S cards are good in TN.

One warning on the online class...

My daughter had 3 nights of the week long class, then we got the flu and had to take the online and Saturday class. She struggled with the portion of the test that she had only learned online. I'd suggested sitting with her for the online portion.
