Question about Walmart and buying ammo.

The past three times I have been to Walmart to purchase ammunition, the sales clerk has asked me after ringing up each box whether this was for a rifle or a handgun and punched my answer into the computer. I was wondering, why would they be polling as to whether the ammunition was for a handgun or a rifle? Just wondering.

because if you are over 18 and under 21 you can buy rifle or shotgun ammo but not handgun ammo.

must be 18 for long gun ammo

must be 21 for handgun ammo.

i just make sure i get a cashier that isnt gun savvy and just tell them its for a rifle, whether it is or not

its probably because if you tell them its for a rifle even though they know its for a pistol, they still have to sell it to you, well legally they cant deny to sell to you for underage reasons because I believe that any business man can refuse to do business with anyone

I have been asked this at Walmart as well.

If I am buying it for a rifle I say handgun and if I am buying it for a handgun I say rifle.

Suntzu, if you did not look 14 years old you might not have this trouble. :D:D

I was there yesterday and bought some ammo and the sales girl asked if I had a permit. She didn't want to see it but she still asked. :D

I now choose not to shop at Wal-Mart. We used to shop there at least once a wekk, but not anymore. It's been about 3 weeks now.

We went to Target for our school shopping.

Well now I'm gonna have to shop there at least one extra time per week :D

Saturday was our last trip to Wal-Mart. My wife needed a set of inexpensive speakers for her car (we are selling it soon) and when she asked for help the girl came up to the counter and started helping the person BEHIND my wife.

We left our cart with all of our purchases in the middle of the store and walked out. We went to the toy store for the kids and then to circuit city for the speakers.

My range sells ammo and the money goes to support them.
