Horror stories of the Kirby vacuum salesman

I never let a door to door sales person past the door step and never accept a free sample.  I don't want to encourage them.

I do have a no soliciting sign and I didn't have to get that approved.  That was one of the few things I informed by better half about and she agreed.

The sign stops most but not all.

Dyson's work better and no one comes to your house peddling them.

I have a Dyson now and it'a a great vacuum...however it is plastic (though not as ugly as a Glock) and I have no illusions that it will last as long as a Kirby will (the on my wife sole...I mean got in the divorce is still going strong and that thing is now over 30 years old). ;)

Get a central vac.  Canister in garage, exhaust outside.

No comparison. no substitute.

I fell for it. It didnt occur to me that I had heard Jehovahs Witnesses have no interest in the military. My mistake, they engaged me in topics I am interested in and I engaged them right back.

I thought they were going to spend the night. There was no getting them out the front door.

Large misconception there, I know a lot of Jehovah Witnesses with guns, who are or we're in the military, and in general have a good understanding of what is wrong with this world.

I once allowed some very attractive girl to flirt with me just long enough to sucker me into buying some magazines. The next night, her photograph was among one of several on the local news for running some magazine scam in our area. Needless to say, I never got my $30 worth of magazines.

Yep, your right about that. That was a generalization actually, because I served at Knox with a JH 2/6th Cav. Guy named Lesa___. But I did ask him about that as did a lot of others when we were sitting around. And he did say (As I recall), yes, but not all of us.

However, the real practitioners will not serve (Dont know about the guns part). Their Religion forbids it. As I recall reading, during the Civil War over 2/3rd that were drafted went to prison for years for not serving. They claim to be the only religion that shuns war but they arent.

General rule, Unless it is something I am expecting( packagedelivery by UPS or Fed-ex) I do not open the front door without checking the visitor by looking out the side door( to the gravel). I rarely use my front door, though this weekend has seen more of it than i've lived here I bet.

I haven't seen any Jehovah's witnesses yet, but there is a bunch of Mormons( riding bicycles in suits) trying to spread their religion around, Which I am a southern Baptisit.

Occasionally have theneighbor's kid sell stuff for her school, but that's different. I like her family, I dodn't mind if it is something i can use or am getting a good deal. But when i first moved here, I had a next-door neighbor kid that ( I know only wanted a friend) would pop over, peek in to see if i was home and that got old quick. So, my front door has the oval in glass and I used a ricepaper window treatment so nobody could see in. ( I can't see out either, but ican see thru the blinds in the window next to the door). Pretty much private, not that i don't mind my neighbors or company. Just like my privacy.

Also since i planted about 36 Leland cypruss trees as a natural fence for the road noise and a privacy barrier( also so I don't have to look at the trailers across the street).

Think maybe that might have been WW1 you're thinking of? We didn't really exist as an organized religion during the civil war.

Jehovah Witnesses since WWII have not opposed war as a whole. JW do have a distrust in government though.
A man that was my step-grandfather was a Korean War Veteran and a Jehovah Witness. His family was very supportive of my desision to join the Army. I was stationed in Hawaii with some Jehovah Witnesses that I would talk with, they knew I was Methodist and were respectful of that.
The religion has adapted to modern times. They still see adultery, abortion, drugs, tobacco and such as serious sins but the evangelist door to door preechings are seen as dangerous. They still do them but with extreme caution and never alone. Edited by Patton

I've been one since birth. I can tell you that as an organization they DO oppose warfare. It was that stand that caused many of the senior members of the organization to be imprisoned during the duration of WW1, not being released until late 1919 after spending 5+ years in prison. The same thing happened during Korea and Vietnam. Thousands of my brothers and sisters in other countries have been murdered for their beliefs with those governments being either complicent in or directly responsible for their deaths. As far as being distrustful of THE government, it would be more accurate to say we don't put our hopes in ANY man-made government and see all of them as temporary stop gap measures awaiting the arrival of Gods kingdom here on earth. I personally would not take up arms in support of what I see as such a temporary arrangement after my brothers have made such sacrafices for their stand. Please understand that in saying that I absolutely do not mean any disrespect for those that have served in the military, our world headquarters is in the USA for a reason. Thank you for helping to create an environment where our work could take place.

I don't want to seem like I'm attempting to proselytize on this forum and I apologize to the OP for taking the thread a little off course. I just wanted to address what may have been some misconceptions that existed.

Here is a tip if it hasn't been posted yet. If you see someone walking down your driveway with a bottle of detergent for clothes its a Kirby salesman. They drop a van load of guys off to offer you a free bottle if you will let them do a demo. If you say yes the van comes for the demo and the never leaving you alone till you buy or threaten them. had a friend try to work for them lasted two days. When I see them coming it freaks them out that I know who they are and I stop them at the end of the drive.

I have 2 Kirby's. Picked up both off Craigslist for $100 each with all the attachments. Take them apart (real easy) clean up, new belts, rollers, some spit and polish and they work like new. I think both are Gen 6's but its the same motor in all of them. They only changed the look for the most part. They are strong vacuums. Its the only vacuum I have found that will pick up my labs hair and still be worth a crap after 6 months.

No way would I ever pay 2k for this vacuum. $500 is pushing it.

Since I am going to be living in Tullahoma soon, I hope i don't see this. But wonder what they will say/do if they see someone openly carrying on their property?

Haven't seen this out in Lincoln county though.

Door-to door sales people are not near as popular as they once were. I rarely see anyone selling anything door to door as of late. It's these excessant phone calls or Junk emails that have taken their place.

I don't know how much truth there is to this because it came from the mouth of a Kirby salesman but supposedly you can never sell your Kirby and if you do and ever take it in for service and the serial number is not registered to you Kirby can reposes it.  Seems far fetched to me and it seems impossible to enforce.  In actuality I think he just said that to deter me from buying one off of Craigslist.

Obviously, this Kirby salesman is confusing Kirby vacuums with NFA class III weapons.

Kirby salesman = bald faced liar.
