I plan to be there on Saturday and possibly bringing my son-in-law. However, this is the first event of this type I have ever attended.

What is the agenda for the shooting?

Lunch at Cptn. Toms BBQ 1130-1230

Shoot 1245- ?(run out of ammo).

We'll be having another golf ball run for both rifle and pistol as well as clay shooting for shotgun shooters. Those are the only three planned events. Everything else is open. Bring and shoot what ever you wish. Bring bug spray and sun block. Range fee is $10 which goes to the land owner the range is located on.

All directions, maps, etc. can be found earlier in this thread.

Well guys, I won't be able to make this one. I was wanting to, but I sprained/strained/twisted??? my ankle today playing basketball. So I'm swollen up right now, and having been there before, I don't think that the sterling range would offer much comfort for an already rolled ankle.

Hey Phantom, sling some clays for me, but at least shot em this time.:D I was hoping to get back over there. We've had some very good (read:memorable) times shooting clays.

Ok, turns out I really cannot make it, and this time, I have a "real" excuse - I will be in Savannah, taking the Better Half to go see her father who is recovering from radiation treatment to fight cancer. Cancer seems to be nuked (literally and figuratively), but he is having a rough time with post-treatment infections. Have some fun for me :bowrofl:.

I am pretty sure I am coming, but I am taking a pass on the BBQ

I'll just catch up to you all at the range.

Found one of their scouts dead in my driveway yesterday afternoon (might post a pic later). MF'er was as big as my palm. I can't be sure what sort of intel he was able to gather before he met his demise, but we must proceed under the assumption that they know we're coming...

Haha that was like tues night at the Comfort Inns at Cherokee...me and the gf walked into the room and she goes "OMG look at that spider" and sure enough this big writing spider about the size of my palm was coming down from the ceiling...I chased that bastard for the better part of 20mins until I could "cage" him under a cup and toss him outside to go terrify some other guest.

HAHA SUN...:P

Funny one too Seaslug...

If anyone is worried about not finding an extremely large Wolf Spider again, I can bring one from home. There's a HUGE frakker that has made a web underneath my back deck and the bird population has really been dropping off!

Great, moving targets.

I would have taken a picture of the spider that stole the golf ball at the last shoot, but I was afraid the flash might startle it into attacking. Dress appropriately. I was waiting for Mike's Mosin to get sucked under the ground, bayonet first. ;)

Greaaaat, I get to dress in stereotypical style with bloused boots and BDU trousers. Let's just hope we don't have a raid tomorrow!

Well now that you have your own, make sure the bayonet is extended, especially before you jab it into the ground ;)

I might have to cut my visit short because mom forgot about it and had a family picture thing scheduled (why? I don't know. WE HAVE A CAMERA! Two, actually.)

I wanna videotape what a 7.62x54R round impacting a large wolf spider looks like. I'm placing my bet on a small explosion and disintegration of the spider.

First it was the pumpkins, now spiders, I wonder what will be next.

As promised gentlemen, here is a pic of one of the "little" ones that was conducting reconnaissance on my property...

Come prepared. You can sure as hell bet that they will be...

Another great time. Lots of firepower. It was great to meet some "new" members and see everybody again. There were lots of digital cameras, so we should be seeing some pictures. I only took a few, which are below.

Downing enemy target stands.

Here's Scottech's son, who will soon be realizing his own ammunition tax. :D

Some skeet misses

Those are all the pictures I took. I think the shock and awe of the amount of firepower kept the spiders in their holes. Heh, heh, spider...holes. I wish I had a picture of Mike .357 shooting skeet with an SKS, bayonet extended.

I had a lot of fun, and look forward to the next shoot.

Today was my second trip out with the group and I have some comments.

1. The group sure is a freindly gang. It is nice to go hang out with people who are willing to hold their new gun out to a stranger and ask "Do you want to shoot it?" I appreciate the quality of the people showing up for these events.

2. I have never really felt unsafe at these events. I have been to many ranges/events where you feel like you need to watch for idiots standing behind you. I feel safe out there and I think that is again a testament to the people there and Phantom's ability to run things safely.

As I was leaving today a Roane County Sherriffs Deputy pulled in. I felt like I was in an episode of COPS because I could not answer his questions (what is the address here?, who owns the property?, what is Phantom's real name?, what is the name of Phantom's school/shop?).

The deputy said that someone had called because they heard a lot of shooting. (I bet they did .) The property owner and/or caretaker came over and spoke briefly with the deputy about the status of the range as a business and some upcoming zoning changes. I think the deputy left satisfied that there were no problems.

I guess the point of my story is that the people that let us shoot there don't do it without some kind of personal inconvenience (noise, traffic, neighbor relations). I tried to express my thanks to them and I hope that others do too.

Phantom, thanks to you too. I could not tell if the upcoming zoning changes will be contentious, but if there is any way we could help, please pass that information along.
