I am new to AR's. Can my Bushmaster Carbon .223 shoot 5.56 ammo as well? Are the two rounds exactly the same?

The carbon Busmaster I had was marked 5.56 nato. I have seen two others that were both marked 5.56 nato. It should say on the right side of the lower just below the bushmaster logo.

Barrel is most universal place for the marking, usually tells twist too.

5.56 has a slightly higher chamber pressure, making it incapable of being fired through .223.

Meh.  If you believe SAAMI. CIP rates both .223 and 5.56 the same max pressure.

5.56 leade is longer to better accommodate longer bullets is real difference. If you're not shooting above 62gr,  probably not see any diff in long term throat wear by shooting 5.56 in .223 chamber.

Main reason you see .223 chamber specific anymore is for precision target and varmint use, as .223 is not as precise from a 5.56 chamber.
