Dodge? Don't expect that thing to dodge a gas station! LOL After 30 or 40k miles your rotors will be warped. And after another 10k you will be replacing the tensioner idler arm, then the water pump. What happens after that? Not sure, as my 1500 hasn't gotten there yet. However the side rail box will take up a lot of your bed space.

Not a Dodge fan, but this is a very cool idea. Then again, what do I know? I liked the "man step" that Ford came out with.

The Ram box is lockable, yet i do agree it takes up some bed space. ( just above the wheel wells, by then it has the bed space of a ford Ranger). Has a lot more space in it than the Chevy Avalanche bedrail storage system.

 

I wouldnt advise on keeping your guns in there all the time, but to the range or on a trip might be ok. Thing about this ram box is there is a drain plug in the bottom and you could keep sodas or beer Ice cold in there, or when fishing, keep your catch there cold and fresh for when you get home.

I just replaced the water pump on my 1500 a couple months ago. Replaced at 228k though :cool:

I'm guessing you wouldn't say they're Ram tough, Ha.

Although I didn't own own of their trucks, I had my fill of Chrysler vehicles back in the mid 90's. I'm talking, two transmissions, blown head gasket, AC issues out the butt etc. etc. I doubt I will purchase in the future.

the new Ram truck is the 2013 Motor Trend truck of the year.

 

That said I still opted to buy an F150 a couple of months ago.

I've got an 06, that had 100,000 miles on it before the first brake job. I've not had problems with mine. But if I was to replace it I would have to go Ford, simply because of the fact they didn't take the government bail out.

I like to be heavily armed while I'm awaiting the tow truck.  You never know what will pop out of the woods around here.

They are fairly common Dodge issues. It does make me wish that I would have stayed in the Ford line of trucks. Oh well, its paid for so I will keep feeding it gas. LOL

Well, I can't dog dodge for being a crappy vehicle. My 98 durango has 220k and no transmission problems yet( knock on wood). I had to replace parts like the water pump, belts, hoses, and went thru 2 sets of rotors. But those are wear items, After 220k miles of pulling trailers and just daily driving, you expect stuff like this.

 

I'm torn though, between dodge or Ford for my next truck. Like the interior and looks of the ford( the ecoboost would be nice) and still keep getting info from a friend about how the dodge is better( he traded his H3 in on a 2013 4x4 hemi crew cab). Though i like both, leaning toward the ford as my dad has fords, and since ford didn't take any Gov't bail-out recently.  But If something like the ram box was offered by ford, then it would be no contest.

I have gone with Toyota Tundra's for my last two trucks (An 06 and a 12). I would consider a Ford and a Dodge, but never a GM vehicle of any kind. Not saying they are not good vehicles they are, but for one thing, I like buying American, but it is a global economy, and the only truck left under Federal Law that can claim to be American Made is the Tundra. Which is why Ford, GM and Dodge no longer tout "American Made" in their commercials, they arent allowed to. An article I read claimed that the Federal requirements to be considered made in the US is at least 75% of the parts have to be manufactured here and 90% assembled. Tundra is the only truck that meets that qualification with 83% of the parts manufactured by American auto workers and 100% assembled in Texas.

 

CBS news did a report a while back. Leaving out the Governments requirement. They did a "at least 75% manufactured and assembled in the US. Here is the "VERY SMALL" list of vehicles that can even be considered Made in the US (below) and as for GM, Ill never spend a dime on a GM vehicle even if they have a 2 million mile bumper to bumber warranty. After the bailout the first thing they did was build three plants in China, a company (I think it is Fisker Motors) which was taxpayer funded to build hyrbid and electric engines is now (Or soon to be) bankrupt and moving to china to build Hybrid Engines that will be used in some GM Hybrids and imported into the US along with some of the vehicles to be built at Chinese plants as soon as they can work through US Federal Safety Guidelines. At the same time a report came out a couple of weeks ago "claiming" that when OBAMA bailed them out with Taxpayer dollars, they cut non union wages by up to 50% while keeping Union members wages stable and increasing Union leadership wages and giving them bonuses. They also did exactly what they said they would not do if Obama bailed them out, they went bankrupt exactly as Romney said they would do and needed to do and on top of all that another report came out last week that claimed that when GM closed all those Franchises they targeted Conservative voting states, closing Franchises that have been in business 75 years and were very profitable while leaving non profitable franchises alone in non conservative voting states.

 

Ill stick with non union American made products as much as possible. Although I do like that Dodge option.

 

Here is the list and here is a very good article. What is the more AMERICAN made vehicle? The Mazda B Series or the Chevy Silverado? The Honda Odysey or the Dodge Grand Caravan?

 

We owned a 2011 Kia Sorrento, one of the best vehicles we have ever owned, 100% made in the US, traded it for an Optima EX-GDI, same thing. Our 98 Avalon is Made in the US. Has a US Engine, not the Japanese.

 

Damn shame when I own three vehicles with the names Toyota and Kia and they are made in the US and I cant buy a Ford or Dodge with an engine made here.

Edit: I saw Tanker's post after I posted mine. Though I do like to rib on guys that own GM, etc. that wasn't the deciding factor in my purchase. I just love vehicles that don't fall apart in the first or second year of ownership. I have seen SEVERAL Toyotas and Hondas go way past 250,000 miles. In fact my dad once had 4 Camrys in the driveway, all which had over 250,000 miles. I just refuse to pay that much money for a car that isn't going to last. With a Toyota, "Close hood. Run forever." I spent about 7 years (2000 - 2007) working for a firm that managed 3rd party engineering and quality management for the Big 3, as well as transplants and their tier 1 and 2 suppliers.  Physically spent time large number of assembly plants and supplier parks in North America.  Over those 7 years the brands that we had the most issues to chase down were DaimlerChrysler (at the time), and GM.  Ford was fairly consistently high in quality.  The worst facilities I personally saw were GM Shreveport (now Elio) and (surprisingly) Nissan Canton, MS (was there for the Titan launch in 03-04), and GM St. Therese (closed 2002).  Could be that the available workforce in each area was horrible, but you couldn't give me a vehicle that was made in those plants in the 2000's.  GM Mex is crap (Ramos Arizpe and Silao).  Same with Chrysler (Saltillo Truck).  Warren, MI not much better.  No confidence in GM/Chryler products.....some confidence in Ford.

I've always been a Ford man. My family once owned a Ford dealership. I had 2 rangers in high school and have an f150 now. My dad has an f250. I do own a Jeep Wrangler and I must say it is pretty tough. But I'm selling it for a Harley next year.

I forgot to add, Ford did in fact accept money from the government. The only difference was they didn't actually need it. But they got $5.9 billion in government, that is to say, taxpayer funded and backed, low-interest loans for hybrid development. Is it just as bad? That's a matter of personal opinion. Mine is yes. They are accepting taxpayer money to invest in losing technology. And since it's a government loan nobody actually expects them to pay it back. And if they don't, we will. Yay crony capitalism (crapitalism)!

My uncle had a brand new '85 Tacoma and last I knew my former Captain still drives it. Top Gear (UK eddition) did a brutal toture test on a Tacoma that included things like lighting it on fire, putting it on the roof of a building to be imploded and leaving it beachside and let the tide come it. It wasnt pretty and there was nowhere left to sit but that truck started right up at the end of the episode.

Oh if only I could afford a truck.
