Favorite holster for large bore revolver?

Looking to get a holster for my Ruger Super Redhawk 44mag. Not sure if it's gonna have a scope in the near future, but looking for opinions on a holster. Looking to pick one up for a camping trip next weekend, so need to make a fast decision. Should I go with a shoulder holster, cross draw, or traditional? What do you carry for hunting/ hiking with a serious revolver?

Sometimes I hike with a 45 oz. 6" barrel revolver.  I carry it in a cross draw leather holster on my belt, and it's very comfortable.  That's what I'd recommend for stuff like camping and hiking.  Academy sells a holster made by a company called Allen that might work for you.  The best way to go is to order one from Simply Rugged, but you won't be able to get that in a week (more like a month, but the quality is top notch).

Took a look at their site. Looks pretty good. Thanks for the info.

Considering going full geek with a full on cowboy rig.

Take a look at Mernickle or El Paso.  We've got a couple of both.  I like the El Paso Money Belt and cross draw rigs the best (...i like the leather better...).

Have fun.

I've been using an old western style Liberty rig (holster, belt w/cartridge loops) for years, it has held up extremely well & iffin they are still in business that is where I'd start looking.

Looks like Liberty Custom Leather doesn't do cowboy rigs anymore.
