My Dad just join ORSA. I am almost 21 so I know they want me to get my own membership to go shoot with him. Which I would like to do anyway. My problem is I need a sponser to get in. I was wondering if any of you knew when would be the soonest he could sponser me so I too can get a membership.

Membership is open to all citizens of the United States, ages 19 or older, who have never been convicted of a felony, and whose activities and behavior do not conflict with the best interests of the majority of the membership. Here's where to download application.

LG, I thought you were still in College. Our Club, MSSA, allows sons of members to be a member until they the graduate or sumtin like that.

You might ask yer dad to check.

But, unless they changed it, you are a probationary member and have to find a member sponsor within a year.

If you'll come out and shoot in a IDPA or Steel Challenge match I'll sponsor you.

Can't his dad sponsor him?

As Mister L said, if you are still in school they said last year during my orientation that it is OK to shoot with family.

Yes I can go shoot with him. But I want to be able to go out there myself and shoot. Which means I must have my own membership. Which means I need a sponsor.

vontar is correct.  If your dad is a member, your dad can be your sponsor.

I sponsored several guys shortly after I joined.  Besides, lack of a sponsor shouldn't keep you out.  If you email the membership coordinator, they will find someone to meet and sponsor you.

I thought you could join ORSA without a membership. I may be wrong, but the story I heard is that the names of all prospective members are read at the club meetings to see if anybody objects to them being a member. Sponsored applicants get their name read once. Un-sponsored applicants have to have their names read at two or three separate meetings, which are held monthly. So, you can be unsponsored, but it takes longer.

When I joined, NRA membership counted as a sponsor. My application went through quickly.

This is what i also did when I first joined. Also any gun group like SASS also counts

I am not a NRA member or paid member of any such organization. So my only way in is to get a sponsor. Which take a minimum of a month. With out and using an NRA take a minimum of 2 months.

I still remember the day you signed my papers. (Sniff sniff) It's all been downhill since! :) JK!
