Ninety percent of everything is crap and it seems virtually impossible to make a tv series that doesn't suck, but Continuum doesn't suck too bad. It is a soap opera, but OTOH The Walking Dead is a soap opera as well.

 

The cgi effects are pretty good. Holds interest pretty good. It portrays a world mostly populated by people scoring in the 99th percentile of being good looking. Especially the women. Which is wildly unrealistic, but on the other hand it is always easier to watch hogwash if there are pretty girls.

 

It also has the trope of brilliant scientists and programmers who effortlessly in a few minutes invent software and devices which would ordinarily take hundreds of merely competent educated people a mere few years to develop. But that is dirt common as well, or it wouldn't be a trope.

 

The plot overview could have been written in a collaboration between Alex Jones and Noam Chomsky. The world of 2077 is a corporate oligarchy surveillance state. After the crashes in the early 21st century, governments bailed out the corporations and then the governments went belly up and corporations became the government. Condemned terrorists escape 2077 to 2012 and a good-looking female cop is also accidentally transported back. You tend to root for the terrorists, and the well-meaninig female cop does her damnedest to make sure history isn't changed and corporations take over, otherwise she can't return to her family in 2077 because 2077 would have been changed so that her family no longer exists. So some elements of the setup are reminiscent of Philip K. Dick contradictory plot lines.

 

The show is more watchable than many others anyway.

I think your synopsis above Lester is pretty much spot on.

It is very watchable ... I am enjoying it.
