Bump and old thread here.

This is on Netflix, and I recalled the previews looked good.

It is a worthy watch for an action flick. I liked it, I liked how the story paced, I liked the characters.

I am not a huge Tom Cruise fan, but I must grudgingly admit that he is a competent actor and he has produced very few (...cough War of the Worlds cough...) failures. I like most of what he does.

I liked the end, the 'moral' if you would call it that, the epilogue as narrated by the patsy.

Gonna have to watch it again...I can't remember much of it at the moment. But that's ok, that way I'll always have a new movie to watch. lol

Read all the books. A new one was recently released. Cruise would not have been my pick for the movie, but I can't think of anyone else in Hollyland that could portray him like the books do.

One of the few instances where I think I liked the movie better than the book (I only read the first one).

IIRC, the author needed to do a little more subject matter research on the military and guns.  He made MPs/CID out to be some sort of SF types.

Maybe nerdy, but all the inaccuracies turned me off.

Movie is based on One Shot, that's #9.

Gotcha.  I was just using the two as a reference regarding the inaccuracies.

They seemed less glaring, to me, in the movie.

Yeah, my buddy had a collection of his books and I tried one of them for a little bit until I couldn't take it anymore. Nothing against MPs, but it was absolutely ridiculous.

I liked the movie though for the comedic value. I just watched Edge of Tomorrow, and it was real good as well. As much as Tom Cruise is a lunatic, he does some good movies.

Overall I believe that it was a good movie. I didn't find it anymore fictional than anything else coming out of Hollywood. The idea that some intelligent, skilled investigator would just be a wonderer is not believable but then again it is. While I have I have met some douchbag MP's in and out of the service, I have also met some that I thought were stellar folks. You have to realize that if they get an identifier they are probably the top 3% of their MOS. Two of the guys I worked with in the past were civilian police officers/troopers who were also in reserves who went active duty to go CID. Some of the inaccuracies like a West Point graduate being an investigator were sour but it is what it is.
