Unique Vs Power Pistol

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)
I've bought both recently to load 9mm, 40SW and 45acp. i noticed on the allient website they are almost identical loading 40S&W as far as grains (7.2) per ft per second (1040 fps or so) or very close at least. I've used unique a lot years ago and I'm getting back into reloading. I'm not wanting hot super fast loads but I'm more interested in quick recovery between shots and accuracy. Id really like to drop into the 950 fps range maybe, but the site didn't have anything that low. Any thoughts or experiences to share? Thanks!! Edited by Randall53

Those two are the only ones I have used. I have done a lot of 38,380, 40 and a few 45. Without a doubt the PP is a fast burner. I have noticed the Unique is really clean, apparaently it is different than the old Unique. The PP meters better and takes up less room. The PP appears to be snappier the best I can tell and the unique in 40 was a dream to shoot at min loads. If you have any specific questions let me know.

I have never used Unique but I use Popwer Pistol and that is all I will use from now on. I have also used Clays, HS-6 and Longshot for my 45 ACP. Between them all I like Power Pistol most.

I use a load of 7.4 grains of Power Pistol with a 230 grain cast bullet. It cycles my 5" 1911 just fine.

I also use Power Pistol for 9mm and use 5.2 grains with a 125 grain cast bullet. It is a little on the light side. It cycles my Taurus 24/7 OSS DS great but with my wife's 9mm AR it sometimes doesn't lock back on an empty magazine. When I get ready to load another lot I will load to 5.5 grains with the 125 grain cast bullets.

That is good news. Thanks to you both. I have 2 lbs of unique and 4 of PP and right now the PP is the easiest for me to find locally, with it being hit or miss on any given day. I located a $6 paperback Lyman reloading book just for 380, 38sp, 9mm, 40S&W, and 45ACP. THAT'S 5 out of the 6 calibers I plan on reloading. I should have my Dillon set up tomorrow night. I've got 500 9mm bullets and plenty of brass, so I guess I'll start there.

Thanks again!
