Apology for slavery put forth by TN's own Steve Cohen

My :2cents:

Slavery was a awful thing. I could not imagine me and my family being slaves to other people or having someone as a slave to me.

The blacks that were brought here form Africa paid the price. They suffered, fought, and died for the freedom and opportunity that most of their descendants choose to squander today.

I have lived and worked in two different countries in Africa and can tell you from experience that the future of the average African is not very bright. There is no opportunity, education, health care, or infrastructure to speak of. The roads look like a bomb range, the power goes out for hours at least once a day, and you can't drive past the cemetery without seeing the funeral of the latest malaria or HIV victim. The goverment is always unstable because you never know when some rogue warlord is going to come in and take it over or the president is just going to decide that he wants to stay in office for the next thirty years and rape the country.

[end rant]

That being said, though slavery was horrendous, if I were black I would be thankful for my ancestors and what they went through to get me here and give me the opportunities that I have.

I don't agree with the reparations... unless it is a airline ticket.

Fine job...cudos...

I happen to be first gen. American, my dad came from Ireland at age 25, my mom's parents from Ireland as teens. My family never owned slaves, and some were slaves. Back when the trans-continental RR was being built, and "mountains were moved"...who placed the explosives? Look it up, historically..the Irish immigrants did..why? Because they were thought to be less human that any other race....now...where is our appology? Doesn't matter, we are to busy at work, making better lives for ourselves, to take a day off to get an apology.

Not all African Americans have this "you owe me something, and I am here waiting for it" attitude, but far to many do, as well as other groups around this country. "Get of yer arse"...to quote my father.

I'd like an apology from the Brits for enslaving the Scots on my father's side and an apology from the King of Norway for enslaving my folks from my mother's side. I'll settle for Nova Scotia as reparations.

How about an apology from the States of IL and MO for putting out bounties on my ancestors heads?

I do not apologize for history. Mine or anyone elses, especially to people that feel they are intitled just because they are too friggin lazy to get off the sofa and make a life for themselves.

This attitude of entitlement makes me sick. Entitle my boot in your ass... lazy duffers.

With acropolises for grammar, I agree. That pretty much the story.

How about an apology from all womankind for Eve making Adam eat that damn fruit?

I refuse to accept this notion that I owe black people money. I also refuse to carry around this guilt whites are evidently supposed to have.

Like others have mentioned earlier in this thread, if reparations are paid then there should be no more racial quotas or any kind of preferential treatment for anything.

If that sounds harsh or racist, I don't care. I've been at the receiving end of enough racist treatment by black supervisors and co workers that I'm no longer able to give a ***** about their issues with whitey.
