I went to Chicago when i was 18 for a mission trip. I didn't really understand why we needed to go to a city in the United States instead of abroad to help people. When we arrived it was very apparent that this place was messed up in every way.  When we got time to "tour" the city with a local is when i knew i never wanted to return to this place. I watched someone throw their cigarette on the ground and a homeless person pick it up and finished it, we passed by a few streets that averaged multiple deaths per night, everything was dirty and i always felt unsafe regardless of where we went.

We worked for a whole week helping the poor and homeless and we barely made a dent. This was 9 years ago. God only knows how much worse it is now. We should all pray for that city. It is a messed up place that noone should ever have to live in.

It's sad to see what has happened to Chicago.  It was a great city with great things to see and experience...I lived there for a year many years ago and have gone back many times.

However, I wouldn't go there today even if I could do so legally armed....when I travel these days I avoid the entire state; even if I have to drive significant distances out of my way.

If there is such a thing as a reverse Bucket List then Chicago would be very near the top of that list for me!

That's really sad ...
As one of the commenters on the article said, these are crimes for the sake of terror. No looting or anything else. This is true "home-grown" domestic terrorism at its finest.

That is exactly what it is. These events are happening all over the city, from what I've read, not the hood. Rather than worry about tourists going armed, the city should be worried that tourism will cease completely in Chicago.  I wouldn't go there now for any reason.

Have some cousins who live there.  Needless to say we only see them once in awhile.

I spent some time in that part of the country over 20 years ago.  I worked across the state line in Wisconsin for about 6 months.  I did make several trips to the Chicago waterfront and touristy areas. Of course that was back before teenagers were a protected species and actually got their asses BEAT for misbehaving and way before they engaged in domestic terrorism. I had no freak'n idea that was gonna one day be the "good 'ol days".....

What's even sadder is it's not just. Chicago. Name a large city and it's the same.  Philadelphia, Detroit   :(

Almost all large cities have significant problems with poverty and crime and almost all large are run by liberal/socialists/progressives.

Crime, while always a problem in large cities seems to be the most problematic in the cities with the most stringent gun control laws.

I can't help but wonder if there is a correlation here somewhere???

Your right, I have to go to Baltimore, Atlanta, Memphis and Orlando to work several times a year and there are places in those cities I just don't go. If my GPS says to go a certain way and I see where it is taking me I make it re-calculate and take me around that area.
