I have never felt more ashamed as a gun owner then after the phone call I just had with a friend.

He's been my best friend for almost 25 years now. Ive always enjoyed guns and shooting but he never did due to a miss fire accident when he was eight that scared him.

I've asked time and time over the years and got turned down. Finally a couple weeks ago when I bought my Mosin he perked up and I could see the thrill in his eyes since he's a WW2 buff. So i took him and my son out that weekend and I started him out with my AR that's a 22LR and went over all the safety with him, and he loved every minute of it. I got him to shoot everything I brought including the kick like a mule Mosin.

The next day we went to a gun shop and he was eyeballing the Henry rifles and was excited to find out they had 22LR versions since he loved the fun but not the kick. Heck even a forty year old needs baby steps sometimes.

Then he decided to go and buy a box of ammo for it with me at walmart before he bought the rifle when it came in. As my post in the walmart ammo thread states, it didn't turn out well. He seen the greed and disdain it's became.

And tonight he called and told me he's decided against it if it's gotta be that way to get ammo.

no mail Raoul.

I understand the OP's buddy though. The ammo things is very discouraging. And the fact that no one can get 22's is the biggest shame.

What good is it to buy a rifle you can't go and shoot?

I'll probably end up buying the rifle since i make alot more and letting him use it on permanent loan since he'd feel bad and always want to pay me back for it if I just gave it to him, just to keep that thrill alive.

Between him and my son they went through nearly $400 in ammo that day but they will never know that. It was worth it for my son to enjoy it and for me to break through someone's fears and watch them enjoy it. His fear dropped considerably after he seen i was right there and quick to jump in if something seemed off. I didn't yell like his uncle and dad did to him about it way back then, I calmly would show him how and calmly correct him as needed.

Reactivate targets helped too lol

Tell him I'll mail him a box of .22's.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!
If I had any 22's I would match your offer.
We need more people like Raoul in this world and help us stand up, stick by one another, and be strong through these hard times instead of taking advantage of situations.

Well actually we probably need fewer people like me personally. But I hate to see a guy lose the spark.

You maybe right because I do not know you personally but it says a lot about character when you try to unselfishly aid a fellow to spark a lost passion.

Take some credit man.  Just don't try to send ammo through the mail ;)

Yep..that IS the shame of it all.  Too bad the ammo PIMPS that buy up the ammo at regular prices and regular outlets, then sell it at 3 times the price and the ammo WHORES that buy it at those prices don't feel any shame for their "It's all about ME"  attitudes.

Thanks for the offer but I'd rather see what little i have left be enjoyed before I'd take a hand out, that's just the way I was raised. Hopefully soon it will be back to normal. I can't hunt anymore due to health so as long as I have a box of ammo for my carry gun I'm ok as long as it's enjoyed.

For crying out loud, it's not YOUR fault that a bunch of Leftists are trying to ruin our country!  Life is what it is.  Your friend seems easily discouraged.

"Panic buying" affects people in different ways. Those that aren't comfortable with firearms or are new to them can get spooked watching some of the current bad behavior that is not typical to the firearms community. Gun and ammo supply will soon catch up with demand and things will start to normalize once again. We all should remember that a man's character is not tested in the good times but the bad.

Let your friend know that we are here to help. If he needs some 22lr. I got a box of 50 i got last week he can have. It was $3.99 so its no big deal. Or you can make it a adventure and visit any academy when they open on Wednesday and walk in a buy some 22lr.

If there is anything you can think of I can help your friend regain some enthusiasm please feel free to ask. I can honestly say I got in a funk about guns in 2003 and sold everything I owned except a gun or maybe two so I know how it feels.

I don't have a lot of 22lr left but if there is something else he might need please ask.

Some people get scared by the availablity, others (such as myself) enjoy the thrill of the hunt. Watching GunBot and then trying to complete a sale prior to being sold out for my own personal use is more addicting than gambling!
