I know you can't carry in National Parks, but can if you're just driving through the Park.

But say I'm going to visit a park. Can I keep it unloaded in the trunk??

What about Harrah's casino in Cherokee?? I think I already know the answer though.

No.

No.

But there is a movement to make at least two of the three a "YES!" in the future.

can't your gun (handgun or rifle) be unloaded and seperate from ammo? The gun in the truck ammo in the back seat (for example)

if I was going to the SMNP I would bring a hard case or a grocery bag maybe. Before going into the parks boundries I would put the pistol in that case and place it in my tool box. Lock toolbox. Put ammo in console and continue on my way.

I see no reason at all to want to carry in a park. Parks are safe places full of good decent people that mean you no harm. And after all parks are no gun zones so nobody is going to have a gun there that you need to worry about.

The same thing can be said about Churchs, even more so. OH, I forgot, look what happened in Knoxville.

I called the casino in Cherokee and was told that firearms were not allowed on the reservation by anyone.

As far as i know, when carrying in a national park, you are breaking a park regulation, not federal law. Breaking a park regulation can subject you to basically a citation. My life is more valuable than a traffic ticket, so I just conceal and go about my business.

My life, my vehicle, my rules.

The key is to do what you think you need to to be as secure as you need to be. One thing you must understand however is that it's like knowingly breaking any law. If you are caught, be prepared to suffer the consequences quietly.

I was at Mammoth Cave a couple years back, with my family, on a Sunday afternoon hike, in a popular National Park. We encountered a drunk guy on a horse, that started to pull a machete on us, because we didn't get off the trail quick enough to let him by. It did not escalate, but it could have, very quickly.

At the time I had a carrying a S&W 640.Never regretted that decision.

Jeremiah, I can't blame you one bit. though if someone threatened ME with a machete, I wouldn't worry THAT much..been in that situation before...but if it was my family? as long as he didn't move his horse, he'd live...the second he kicked that horse towards one of my family members, that horse would need to find someone else to feed him.
