Not heard much about the Ruger SR1911. What do you think?

I like Ruger products. If for no other reason, they are an all American made product. Using American workers to put out an American product. Besides, they're stainless, and shiny, and being a packrat I love shiny stuff. I would like to buy a 1911 for single stack division shooting in practical pistol matches. I have never read any comments about Ruger's SR 1911 here. Does anybody have one? Do you have any problems with it?

I have one and the only problem I had was trying to find one at a good price.

Mine shoots better then I do and eats anything I feed it.

They pop up in the classifieds every now and then, but don't last long.

Good luck

Agreed, the SR1911 is a great buy. I bought one about a month ago and took it right out of the box to finish 5th in an IDPA match.

I recently purchased a Ruger commander after several months of searching to find one.  It's a well made and dependable pistol.

Overall a nice gun for the money.
The only complaint I have with mine is the trigger could be a little better.
It has a longer reset and is not as crisp as my Sig's. For a few dollars that can be easily fixed

It would be safe to say that Sigs have better triggers than 90% of guns. I actually think most 1911's to include vintage Colts, Remingtons, or what ever don't necessarily have great triggers.

I guess I'm the odd man out. I held a lightly used one at D&T and it rattled worse than a hooker's knees in church.

I was not at all impressed with the pistol. The trigger was bad and the fit was poor. I might want to have a look at a new one to change my mind. I have owned quite a few 1911's and still do. i want to like this pistol. It was over a year ago.

They are the best entry 1911's on the market in my opinion well worth the money

I've been out of the 1911 game for a little while and I think that I'm wanting to get a true "commander" sized gun (all steel and 4.25" with traditional recoil system).  I'm not wanting entry level, but this doesn't have to be a Baer/Nighthawk/etc.

What makes this better than Remington's offering?

Who else should I be looking at?

Well I can't vouch for the commander size, but I have both the Ruger and the Remington. They are both excellent guns.
In all honesty I think the Remington is more gun. It just feels more substantial.

My next 1911 will be a Springfield. My full size ruger 1911 doesn't rattle just needs a trigger job as I stated before. However it was made a couple of months ago. I have owned it for a couple of weeks. Maybe ruger is getting better with fitting ;)

I rented one at the range yesterday and it was great! It was solid as a rock and it ran about 80 rounds without a hiccup. Just as accurate as I was. The problem is, since it is still scarce in some areas, prices are all over the place.

If the 9mm sr1911 is anywhere as great a gun as the sr9 or sr9c, then it's probably a solid peice. As I recall, I was about to get the sr1911 when I bought my sr9c, but the price was about $250 on more than the sr9c, so that made my decision.....

SR1911 is .45.
