Australia! If I here Australia one more time......

Recommended Posts

Of the ten most poisonous creatures in the world, seven of them live in Australia. I like the Aussies but the anti-gun people keep shoving Australia down my throat.  Does someone have any crime statistics that repute the anti's propaganda that Australia is some kind of Utopia now that they have banned most firearms? Sure thay haven't had any mass shootings but what about home invasions, rape and murder?

-> assault victims: 4th of 20 countries in their study, a very high number.

-> UK is higher still.  (England and associated police states)

-> US is 9th in assaults in that list.

-> some of the more nasty countries are omitted from the study.

All you can really say about them is that with a 99.99999% total gun ban, they have a fairly low rate of shootings.....  and a very high rate of everything else.

I went to Australia twice two years ago because of my job. Both times I stayed for 3 months each, one stay was in Sidney and the other in Melbourne. The local news there was filled with crime stories just as any larger cities here and in my opinion their residence is being held captive.
Car Jackings, home invasions, and muggings all leading the way. Instead of individuals committing crimes, they have their problems with small gangs and street hoodlums that ban together and out number their victims in areas where a person should have the right to feel their safest. I.E their homes, cars, city parks, the beach...
Yes, the weapons of choice are conventional as in bats, police battons, brass knuckles... and in most cases that I heard about, one of the attackers had a gun.
No shots were fired because there was no need to. The victims were out numbered, under armed and at the mercy of a man at gun point or just plain beaten down.
So yes, the statistics say gun violence is down but if you you never have to fire a shot in order to take what you want, even though you still have a gun or never have a chance or choice to fire back in self defense I would say that would cloud the statistics a bit.

I have friends in Adalaide. A couple of them came and stayed with me a few months ago while they were touring the US. We took them shooting for two days and to the Knob Creek Machine gun shoot. They Loved it! How much? They started the process to purchase firearms. Their laws are draconian to say the least. (you have to take a class and get a permit for an airsoft gun!)

What I have hear from them...

• Their guns laws are too strict.

• Crime with guns still happen. (just not as much)

• Most of their friends take some sort of boxing or martial art.

• Assaults are fairly common (depends alot on where you live)

• Preferred choice of criminals now large knife (think kitchen) impact weapon.

My firend's girlfirend had never even handled a weapon before her visit with us. After a few magazines she was knocking down steel plates like a champ with my .22 ruger. (They shot everything we could hand them.) She too is now in the process of getting her permit to own and taking her classes. She wants to buy a used ruger like the one she shot.

She was amazed to see how my boys (16 & 13) handled the guns and how safe they were with them and how much fun she had shooting! (She was sporting that confident "I can do this" smile you se on first time shooters.

I know this isn't the "stats" your asking for... but I wanted to give you a look at the culture and thoughts of some over there. They are not all anti-gun but sadly they just don't have the numbers we have to over turn those laws... yet. I told him teh best way to do it is take another person shooting. We have to win people over to this sport/culture one at time. I think teh range is the best place.

What's funny, you scoot over next door to New Zealand and crime plummets. Their gun laws are stricter than ours in lots of ways but manageable. They are not bound by barrel length laws and are kinda encouraged to use suppressors, which aren't regulated. Semi automatics and handguns are mildly painful to acquire but doable. The biggest gripe I have is absolutely no provision for carry.
I know a few people down there and they say it's not needed if you stay outta the big cities. Everyone is laid back.

Australia could actually be a WONDERFUL place to be if they weren't so stupid about gun laws.

I can't remember the game but in one of the games I played they had a description on all the weapons.   This one stuck because it was funny, but it applies here...

club:

A club is a short blunt weapon that can easily be made or improvised from a wide variety of materials, hence its widespread popularity.

Also recently some liberal idjit in england (I think) was commenting on how easy it is to get a knife....
