:cop:  Got stopped for (allegedly) driving 42 in a 30 by a Somerville, TN police officer today. Guess I wasn't paying attention. :shake: Anyway, this was my first time to be stopped since I got my HCP so I thought I'd relate how it went.

I had my driver's license and HCP in hand when the cop got to my window but I forgot to put my hands on the steering wheel. :hiding: She told me I was going 42 in a 30 and I explained that I thought it was a 45 mph zone. She asked for my license and I gave her both the driver's license and the HCP without saying a word ever about my firearm. As a matter of fact, we never discussed my firearm at all. She asked for my registration and insurance and I at first forgot to tell her that I needed to reach in the glove box and had my wife open it.  Then I remembered and told the cop we were going to look in the glove box if that was okay. She said it was fine. Later, I realized that I had an extra mag in the glove box, which I now realize may not have been too bright of an idea. :ugh:  She never saw it apparently and took all my paperwork back to her vehicle.

When she came back, she said that she just needed to me slow down or something like that and said, "Here's your driver's license and Handgun Carry Permit back." I told her next time I came through I would watch my speed more carefully. And that was it...

Whew...No ticket...

Also...My kids are very aware of the whole HCP concept, etc., so as we pulled over for the traffic stop I reminded them that it was important that they let Daddy tell the cop about the gun and not to be mentioning it themselves because it might cause a misunderstanding. I told them to just stay quiet and let Daddy to the talking and they did very well with that.

Anyway, just thought I'd post for others' benefit and so everybody could give me the third degree about what I did wrong.  :nervous:

Had a similar pleasant experience late the other night in nashville. No worries from the officer when I handed both licenses over. And a warning.... hooray! And kudos to the officer for reciprocating respect.

Sounds like you did good, I have not been stopped yet.

You showed respect and I know the LEO liked it.

12 MPH over could have been a big fine.
