West Virginia transplant to Tennessee

Hey.  I'm a West Virginia mountaineer moving to the Nashville area in a couple of weeks.  New home, new state, new career.  Looking forward to the adventure.  I'm currently a fundraiser for the NRA and while I've always been a supporter, I'm not a gun owner...yet.  I'm interested in taking some classes and buying a personal protection weapon at some point.  I'd welcome suggestions on dealers, instructors, and the like.

As far as looking to find a good place to purchase a firearm, informative insight, or just general fellowship.... you have found it.
This is the best forum in the state and is filled with helpful people with some amazing deals and beautiful collections...most of the time.
I haven't meet a guy that I wouldn't deal with again yet.

I was born in Clarksburg, raised in Philippi, lived 20 years in Morgantown where I got both my degrees from West Virginia University, and back in Clarksburg.  Most of my dad's family are in Lewis and Gilmer counties where we settled in the early 1800s.  I grew up hunting but am not able to so any more (disabled Veteran) so my dad, brother and bro-in-law kept me well-supplied during deer season.  Where is your wife's family from?

You fly what ever flag that you want as long as the American flag is on top. (and as long as you try to wear orange on Saturdays this fall) Diversity is what makes us great.

They are from the Putnam County area.  Much more south of you.

Just remember West Virginia is below the Mason Dixon Line. As far as that little thing about breaking away from Virginia, heard tale that East Tennessee considered doing the same thing from the rest of Tennessee about the same time :stir:

Yankee???  Where???  I was born below the Mason-Dixon and that makes me Southern...although when I was in Morgantown I lived about a mile from the line.  When the wind was right you could smell the Yankees from the other side.  ;-)

Be sure to get registered to vote. We need some help getting our Rhino Senators retired. If you are in the Nashville area you should also check out the TFA (Tennessee Firearm Association). It's a TN version of the NRA.

The training for my new job doesn't start until May 28, and I'm moving down on May 11.  I wanted to come early so I could get situated and get things taken care of, like switching the car registration and so on.  Registering to vote is already on the list.  From what I understand, I can't get the voter registration thing taken care of at the DMV like we can here in WV...so it looks like a trip to the court house will be in order.

I was able to get a DL, plates and register to vote in one stop at the County Clerk's office.  The HCP takes a trip to the DMV, but you've got time to take care of that afterwards.  As I recall, I needed a utility bill as proof of residence.

It's good to know that I can make one stop to the County Clerk's office.  I got the utility bill covered when my partner added me to the electric bill, so all's good there.  I'm not familiar with HCP...that would be the handgun carry permit, right?
