Best way to sell Mil surplus collection

I have been collecting Mil-surp  rifles for over 30 years. I have not seen or shot  or even looked at some of them for the past 10 years. What would you do?.... put on consignment or list online......I am leaning to consignment.  I am old and cranky and just don't have the patients to deal with some of the Mall ninjas and closet commandos......  I would hate for  an old war hero to be  given the bubba treatment. I don't have a Curio and Relic so how would I sell to some one out of state.

 

Give me some of your thoughts.

My 13 year old son has taken an interest in WWII since both his granfathers fought in it. This has led him to studying the history of other wars as well, which has also got me more involved. He has spent probably 20 to 30 hrs working on an old M1 steel pot trying to clean it up and somewhat restore it. He even sleeps with it. I am picking a net up I found for him today. Anyway, his desire is to get a .30 cal or an actual M1. We will just have to wait and see if I can make it happen for him.

Be sure you know what you have etc, some stuff has gone up in value significantly in that time period.

 

Selling out of state.....  depends on the laws in both states as well as the federal laws and also matters if the other person has an FFL.   The easy way is shop to shop --- go to your local gun store, ask them to ship it to his local gun store, buyer eats the fees, the local store is in charge of any paperwork /state nonsense for the buyer.

What they said.  There's several here who appreciate a nice milsurp. 

 

Selling out of state isn't a big deal.  If the buyer's FFL will accept from an individual, you just ship it to the FFL and they handle it.  Otherwise, your FFL ships it to the buyer's FFL.

I can guarantee a good home for a few of the rifles. No rebuilds, I like them in them in their original condition.

I just started my WW2 collection with a Mosin that is being much loved and shot like they should be. I have the bruise on my arm to prove it lol.

List up what you have, I refuse to doll up old classics, my stock has scratches on it that I wish could tell their stories and other then cleaning and protecting it's staying that way.

Like another poster said, do a little research when you are ready to sell and get ballpark prices. This will not only help you see where prices are now but may also jog your memory about what you originally paid.

If you have to ship out of state you are asking too much money. :)  If you don’t like the idea of meeting a stranger somewhere you can legally ship within this state to a TN resident if you are satisfied with their ID.

Consignment is the way to go if you don’t want to handle the sale or meet, but you get less money.
