IDPA Summer Concealment

Soon it will actually warm up for good and we'll get those 85-90 degree mornings during the summer IDPA matches.  Are full mesh shooting vests legal IDPA cover garments?  Obviously you can see through the vest, but they do hang low enough to cover the pistol.

That particular on has a slot on both sides were your pistol rides.  I saw someone wearing one at a match a couple of weeks ago and the gun was clearly in the slot and not concealed.   I asked the RO about it later and he mentioned it was not legal.   For the really hot days I wear a large (fishing type) vented back short sleeve shirt.

S & A makes a light weight idpa vest.

cut the sleeves off a old army BDU shirt or whatever they call it now and put a extra mag in the pocket

You guys are right.  Clearly outlined in the rule book:

Page 43:

All equipment should be so placed that, when wearing an open concealment garment with your arms extended at your sides and parallel to the ground, it can NOT been seen from the front, rear or sides. Your concealment garment should be practical for your environment and loose enough to allow easy movement. Competition only garments are prohibited. Competition only garments are defined as: vented or mesh vests that allow the firearm, holster, spare ammo or ammo carriers to be visible when standing normally, artificial stiffeners of any material (other than standard laundry starch) used in any location, use of chest pockets, specially-made pockets or any material inserted in pockets or around pockets to keep the pocket open for stowage of partial magazines after a reload. Garments that are considered “competition only” will incur an FTDR. See “Proper Magazine Retention” in the Glossary for further details.

If it is hot enough to need an almost full mess vest then it's hot enough to use the extreme weather clause.

You folks know that I'm a slave to fashion.  Its true that I once shot a match that took place after 6 PM in a tuxedo jacket, but amittingly without the cummerbund.

IDPA summer concealment for me is a lightweight jacket.

A cotton-seersucker that is mostly unlined is the epitome of elegance and taste for the well-dressed shootist.

This replicates the light blazers, jackets and summer suits I wear when my EDC is something fullsize.

With or without tails? :)

Not familiar with that clause. What page is it on?

It's on the same page as the rules about "it's just a club match".

I believe tails would be a morning coat.

Correct so long as when worn with trousers that are either 'cashmere' striped, or black and white checked.

Tail Coat and Trousers of matching fabric would be traditionally considered Evening Dress and correct only after 6:00 p.m.

...... Prehaps we are getting a bit off topic.

Might be the after affect of those times when I served along side Brits, Aussies, and or Kiwis.
