I use IP cameras connected to my computer through my network but have not used the stand alone type. Edited by Romad7

You mean DVRs with built in cameras? :)

I knew they made DVD players and such with them, good way to run the wires to it without it being really obvious I suppose. But unless you stealth along with the ability to stream it live to a remote location I would say any stealth wireless cameras would work.

If it isn't chance to inform what is the general use going to be? Nanny cam, security cam...daughter's boyfriend cam? lol Different applications can call for different equipment that can vary in price dramatically. Also if you having a specific problem with equipment you already have, just ask I am sure someone here can help.

I'm guessing he means surveillance cameras sending their video feed to a DVR to store it.

Ah yeah, I didn't think of that. In that case he would need a PVR not a DVR.

I was wondering about a couple surveillance cameras aroujdnthe house that could record to the computer or something similar. But just my luck, they'd steal the computer too.

Yes quite possible and probable in the event of a burglary. My first suggestion would be to keep the recording device(s) in a floor bolted safe. This requires a safe with the power outlets on the inside. If however that is not an option for whatever reason, my next suggestion would be to route it to stream it to be stored on an account on "the cloud". As a last resort would be a stand alone wireless recording device that only requires a power source, in which case you would just hide it. One set up I have seen on the latter was to set up the device under and in a boxspring running the power from the nightstand lamp outlet.

Thought I hit the subscribe to thread, but .... :) sorry for no response. I was looking for something very similar to nanny cam for recording after hours occurrences around the office. I ended up picking up a couple of hidden cameras made by Lawmate. Very good quality and very well hidden. MicroSD up to 32 Gig. So far they are great products.
