Anyone tried an adjustable upper receiver?

While searching for ideas for a possible .300 BLK build, I ran across this. It looks like a much easier method when compared to an adjustable gas block. Based on the description, you're forced to go with a carbine length gas system.

It's the exact same concept as a 3 way gas block. It's just the switch is on the other end of the gas tube. Would work fine but the price is pretty steep for what you get.

Considering normal prices you should be able to save almost $100 by buying a standard upper reciever and adjustable block.

With pistol gas length, I've been able to adjust mine to run all sub and super sonic loads without adjustment. Of course if I added a suppressor that might change, but I don't need to adjust the block in the field.

Problem is they are using a carbine length gas system. There is no need to meter a carbine length gas system with a 300 BO. Also a carbine length gas system is going to have problems shooting subsonics without a suppressor. With a suppressor there is no need to meter the gas at all. A carbine length gas system does not need to be metered with unsuppressed supersonic ammo either. I have also been told that suppressed supersonic doesn't need to be metered.

 

Now if there is a way to use it with a pistol length gas system then it would be nice.

 

Bottom line is if you are shooting supersonic only then use a carbine length gas system. If you are going to be shooting any subsonic then use a pistol length gas system. And if you want to shoot both use a pistol length gas system with a way to meter it when shooting supersonic ammo.

 

If you want a reliable subsonic 300BO you need a pistol length gas system.

 

Think of any gas adjustment as a way to lengthen the gas system. You can take a pistol length gas system and artificially lengthen it. You cannot take a carbine length gas system and artificially shorten it. I recommend that everyone use an adjustable gas block in the guns regardless of caliber. Once a gun is properly gassed it has less recoil, it stays cleaner and parts don't wear as much.

 

Lumberjack has a nice setup that runs great.
