New Pope

I've never been a big fan of the Catholic Church for various reasons, nor do I like the celebrity they put on the Pope, but this new guy is really doing a lot to redeem their image.

Here's an article talking about him nixing some bonuses and giving a donation to charities instead.

New Pope, last Pope, The End!

Posted (edited)

if and when he hands over all protected priests and all information about them to the authorities and cooperates fully to end the child abuse scandal, he will earn my praise.   If he continues to hide and protect them, he can burn with the rest.   I could care less what else he does.  Giving away a little money --- lots of not very nice people do that all the time.

Agreed with OP. I can hear the dialogue in the conclave. "Our church is really in the can! Somebody has got to be visible 24/7 as truly pious, humble, selfless, and 100% concerned with the less fortunate of the world." All who can do this, step forward. I envision the apparently very humble, servant-oriented South American cardinal (and maybe others) taking one step forward while most wished in earnest that could creep back out of sight. I don't think this vote was a struggle for them. They had found the man that could do the job that very, very few would want. This papacy had to be different.

WELL.. Llike any good catholic.. the old one pulled out early..

why would this pope be any different? They all have something to hide.. no one is a saint or an angel... give it time.. things will come crawling out of the closet

I find quite a few things wrong with their church, but a good deed is a good deed. They should be giving up a lot of those trinkets they worship. How much would that throne bring for the starving in Darfur? Edited by bigbabysweets

I never understood that about churches.. they all seem to need a huge pompous church  and a even bigger  cross out front.. all that would go a long way to feed the needy ect...

the poor will always be with you...

This always reminds me of "the Outlaws Prayer" by Johnny Paycheck. It's a nice slow, really spoken, song. Talks about hypocrisy in churches...

Some of the very practices in Catholicism goes against scripture...
