I have one for sale but I don't have a book on it.

Come to think of it you will probably not find one because the military did not officially make them. They built about 30 are 40 and dropped the idea so it never really went into production.

There were many variations to the 1903 NM. Brophy's Book, The Springfield 1903 Rifle, will be your best resource.

The one I owned was a 1927 "B", with headless cocking piece. It was rebarreled by springfield in the 1930's and at some point the owner replace the original stock with a "C" stock.

Many match rifles were assembled by gunsmiths using USGI parts. Perhaps even more have been assembled in recent years in an attempt to pass them off as original Springfield assembled NM rifles (the only truly NM parts were the rear ladder sight which was graduated differently than the USGI sight, the limited production "B" stock and the even rarer headless cocking piece, and occasionally a reverse safety). All were assembled with Star gauged barrels (but so were others, as the barrel could be purchased separetly, as could just a barreled action). An NM butt plate was also often installed, but also as often not. The presence or lack of any of these components does not necessarly qualify/disqualify the rifle as a NM.

If you are looking to buy an existing rifle, the first stop should be to check Springfield Research Service to compare serial #. I found the original invoices for my 1927 inside the stock and further confirmed it with a direct match on SRS.
