new dpms .308 AP4

Well, the guys at hero gear came through in about 2-3 weeks on this rifle. I dunno where they got it, because i emailed DPMS looking for one. But they got it...and now I have it in my grubby sandwich clamps.

Looks just like the pics in the review/dpms website, not a blemish on it. Lightweight and fun to shoot. Comes with solid A2 style iron sights, 2 mags, cleaning kit, and a sling in a blow molded case. I'm not too keen on the 0-2 setup, but a 50 yard zero on the small apeture works like a champ.

With the right ammo it should be a sub MOA shooter. I haven't shot this one yet, but if it does as well as the one I got to shoot...I'll be very pleased. I dunno how they can make a gas operated .308 carbine this accurate...but they do.

Once I have some ammo, I'll post up a range report. Probably have to get some glass on it to really test it for accuracy though...and that might be awhile.

The only downside to one of these is the cost of ammo. They are very addicting to shoot and you could probably shoot up a fairly decent car payment in one range visit if you like to pull a trigger.

I have one. You are going to love it. I have been using Santa Barbra, Radway Green

and South African Surplus. Also some reloads. make sure you break the barrel in. I have heard good things about the Lithuanian. It was also the rifle of the year by

Ameican Rifleman for 2006.

Sorry, I'm too lazy to take pics and web em. It's a spitting image of the ones online, except it looks better first hand.

The thing is, it's as handy as a 5.56. It's not like a battle rifle you can only fire prone. It shoots offhand with no sling great. It says it weighs 7.5 pounds empty. I bet that's pretty accurate. With a lightweight optic on it and a full mag, it will still handle pretty well. Say what? 9ish pounds total? With better accuracy than a hunting rifle?

I shot one and it was a no brainer. I called and ordered it the same day I think. I've shot and chronoed the lithuanian. I have a case coming. After that its all reloads for me, but the brass looks like it will hold up.

As I think you saw I was clearly shooting better with my 700 VLS than with my Panther. But the Panther has a Leupold 3X9 VX I and the VLS has a Leupold 6.5 X 20 VX III.

I think I need that Mark 4 Glen had.

Panthers eat alot don't they.

The problem is, there's no bad decision here, lol.

Oh yeah. I fired about 400 rounds yesturday after blowing off 100 .45.

The price of the .308 bothers me, but, I guess its better than spending it in a bar .

Your right about that...I finished paying the IRS for '07 the other day and was totalling up receipts....needless to say I will be staying out of the bars for the remainder of '08. It was quite sobering when I realized what I wasted. Shooting is much more fun then hanging around in a bar.
