based on their training and THE LAW, whether they even have a reason to take action.

Agreed on all parts except I'd change the above to: "Whether or not they have the lawful authority to take action".

true, but that "lawful authority" part is moot when the cop in the video thinks he's exempt from laws

The only "right" we have left is ... the "right" to remain silent.

Really?  Looks like the officers in this case decided that Grisham's son didn't have that right, either.

“I told him not to answer any questions,” Grisham said. “I told him not to answer a single question until his mother was there — and she would answer the questions for him.”

But that’s not what happened.

Chris told Fox News that the police officer refused to let him out of the car until he answered a series of questions. The boy had not been arrested.

“The officer told me that I wasn’t getting out of the patrol car until I answered his questions,” Chris said. “He said I didn’t have a choice. I was scared.”

Yea, I was also very troubled by that as well as by the suspension of suspect #2's Miranda Rights for "public safety" reasons.

The real crux of the problem is that the officer will probably not be repremanded at all, for any of his over-stepping of his authority.

And unfortunately this sort of over-stepping of authority has become faily common these days, so common in fact that it is almost SOP (standard operating procedure).
