What are Republicans thinking?

Recommended Posts

Republicans have voted at least 30 times to repeal The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.  On the surface it appears to be genuine, but we all know it is purely symbolic since it stands absolutely no chance of making it to the Senate floor.  When it comes time to put your money where your mouth is, they continue to appropriate money to this act via continuing resolutions, and it now appears that the Republicans are trying to shore up money for one of the provisions of Obamacare.  What gives?

http://thehill.com/blogs/healthwatch/health-reform-implementation/294099-gop-fast-tracks-bill-to-fortify-obamacares-high-risk-pools

Based on everything I have seen since the inception of the act, it appears that the Republican leadership have no real intention or desire to repeal this act.  All of the House leadership's rhetoric and actions are really nothing more than political theater designed to dupe the lower information right-leaning voter.  While this strategy has been utilized successfully over the years, it is starting to lose its effectiveness, especially with regards to right-leaning voters.

The Republican leadership needs to take their collective heads out of their a$$es and open their eyes to what is happening within their party.  Voters within their party are moving further to the right fiscally, and becoming more libertarian socially.  The leadership has become totally disconnected from their base because all they are doing is moving further to the left.  We have Toomey pushing for expanded background checks, and Rubio, McCain, and Graham are pushing pseudo-amnesty with their immigration reform.  Boehner talks a good game by constantly claiming we have a spending problem, but is ineffectual when it comes time to actually do something about it.  If they continue down this path come election time, the Republican Party might as well change their name to the Minority Party.

They keep playing the shell game.....I have respect for very few of our leaders period. Most of them just keep living it up on our dime, playing the same ol' political games.  Worst of all, the same people KEEP VOTING THE SAME ONES IN......many of them have 15+ years misrepresenting us all, cutting deals and adding pork to every bill they can to stay in office.

In the words of the immortal Lewis Grizzard, "it's a trick General Sherman, there's two of 'em!"

It's a ruse that both parties are in on - whether they realize it or not.

It gives some credence to the old saying that if voting actually mattered they'd have outlawed it already.

What are Republicans thinking

You are operating under the premise that they actually think, well, at least as we do, with our brains.  They actually think with their pocketbooks and bank accounts, and are attuned only to the siren's song of lobbyist sung in the bilingual language of Politicians, Republicrat.  Better known as Cha-ching.

I feel they are thinking about not having there ass handed to them in the next elections, mid terms or 2016.

They have to turn the media around and by supporting Obamacare is the first step. We all know it is and or will be a complete failure but if they never supported it it would have been the " greatest accomplishment that we stood in the way of". It will be a huge topic of debate and a possitive for Republicans in 2016! The same year we kill it.

The Latino population is here to stay and we will need that vote. The Republicans are being pro active and trying to stop the bleeding from the gashing we have took from the liberal mainstream and media and offering an olive branch to that community. Kudos to them. I can almost bet that there are number of Lations that are able to vote and want to be American that really give a damn if the illegal ciminals stay or go as long as they feel that their voice is heard. Secureing the border is first and formost and if we have them in on our side and advocate for it, the ones that do not want to be Americans will go home because they will feel rejected from their own. That is the second step of turning the media.

The third step is the Black vote and the liberals who want to vote Black cause they are "cool" if they can tell their frinds that they did. There will not be a Black candidate in 2016 so the race card cannot be played and once again, I will bet that the Democratic candidate WILL NOT get 95% of thier vote if they vote at all. Do you really thimk that minorities are going to vote for Hillary? She is the scarriest looking, most dishonest looking white woman I have ever seen.

NOTHING AGAINST ANYONE OF ANY RACE OR COLOR! I just feel that all was blinded by a false profit and his lies. The truth will prevail... as long as we can stop giving the liberal media ammunition.

I dont feel that most of the Republican Party is being weak, they are just wearing sheeps clothing.

It is like arguing with a female... if you raise your voice to match theirs, no matter how right and rational you are, it is you who is an irrational jerk and WILL LOSE!.

Sometimes it is easier to say yes dear and do what you do.

This is the absolute wrong approach.
Conservatives cannot out entitle bribe the progressives, it's the progressives' platform.
Conservatives cannot keep trying to appeal to demographic voting blocks on tailored, pollrated messaging, they will become as emotionally based & devoid of logical consistency as the progressives.
Conservatives cannot ever win the established mainstream media echo chamber's good graces. It hasn't worked since the introduction of color tv in 1951 why do people think it will begin to work now.
Conservatives cannot continue to adopt the language of the progressives to debate the issues.
Every republican presidential nominee that has pandered like the democrats has been solidly trounced and those few that have won continue to win by narrower margins because the consultants and beltway mentality dictates that they fight like democrats which will not ever benefit republicans.
Conservatives have to be principled in their convictions, admirable in the ability to Consistently defend their principles and must Consistently maintain conservative ideals. Failure to do this is the very simple reason they lose when they do.

IMO this is exactly why they lost the last two presidential elections.

Given the results of recent elections, I think that's much closer to reality than we'd like to admit.  The Reagan era days of the political landscape being dominated by the white upper middle class (aka, the stereotypical republican) are over.

Too many dinosaurs in the Republican party right now. McCain, Graham, Alexander, etc need to be gone. They're nothing more than political animals drunk on power and living by the "way things are done" in Washington.

Yep.  They're just riding the wave to retirement.  It's a pretty good gig and they're gonna hang on as long as they can.

I am not saying it is right.

I am just trying to look at it with a little hope and try and figure out how the Liberal movement has taken such a grasp on this Nation

I do know that when your back is against the wall and you have done everything that you can think of to turn the tide and nothing works, sometimes a sucker punch is the best option.

I pray that is what is happening but we are at the peak of the "NEW  World  Order" and do not have time to sit back and say "this is what we have always done and will continue to do so... till death"

The problem did not start when Obama got into office! And it did not happen overnight. The liberals took there time, planned it during the eight years + before he came along, very quietly, and then surged.

Yes I feel it is the flavor of the month and the only way for it to have a devistating and lasting effect is for us to keep fueling the fire. Their movement will crumble upon its self but we have to be organized and wiating  for the opportunity to throw or sucker punch. WE CAN NOT GO TOE TO TOE WITH THEM AT THIS TIME. Lull them to sleep, let them drop there guard, get our people into place then have a surge of our own.

Conservative values will prevail but sometimes you have to let a teeneager be a teenager.

Let them win a few battles or at least let them think that.  It is winning the war that is important.

I understand how the Liberal movement was hijacked by those individuals that represent the forces of statism, authoritarianism & plutocracy. I also understand that the efficacy of the movement is in direct correlation to the inaction of conservatives to stand at the gates to defend rather than indulge in individual protectionism, isolationism & cowardice.

I do know that when your back is against the wall and you have done everything that you can think of to turn the tide and nothing works, sometimes a sucker punch is the best option.

Not sure what a 'sucker punch' option is in your opinion, this could mean anything.

out of these 7 sentences it's rather unclear if you're saying to 'wait' or 'we don't have time to wait' or 'continue the course' or 'zigzag for cover'. in fact it appears to be a somewhat contradictory jumble of buzz phrases. forgive me for my inability to understand your lucidity.

being a teenager comes after being a kid. it starts out with allowing 'kids to be kids' and not correcting them. by the time they are a teenager you've already dropped the ball. life gets real painful to correct it at this point. this isn't make believe this is real life.

there is no need to allow them a sense of complacency. their complete annihilation and the destruction of their entire base of power is the only operable way in which this country can sustain itself for a continued duration of time. attempts at anything else are simply delusional that will have repercussions. reflecting back from within the salt mines with the burden of chains upon your wrists about the path you Should have taken rather than trying to play games is not a position most of us want to be in.

We need a good game of cowboys and illegals for a final solution to the illegal problem. With reproduction rates and the way many end up on public dought through anchor babies we cant afford it.

The Gop is not going to "out latino" the democrats. Once an amensty is done it will just mean more votes for democrats and once out of the shadows I am sure even more tax subsidized children will be produced.and then the democrats will be the party of "hand outs" and will still get the votes. I doubt republicans will pick up 5% of the latino vote becasue of this but might have many other voters in their base staying home or voting third party and probably cost 10% or more of the GOP base.

I too have nothing against people of other races, but if latinos ( a good chuck) feel that amensty if a reason to put someone like Barack Hussein Obama in office I would highly say they need to get some patriotism. I firmly believe a majority of anchor babies as well as those who would get amensty have no loyalty to the usa but the craphold countries they break into ours from. Notice all the mexican flags at most of their rallys?

If mexico is so great why did you break into my country?

I dont know it could. People get tired of things. It seems like many people have not really been paying attention, but between losers who contribute nothing to society voting for obama for a free phone and others so people can break into the country there are probably lots of people who actually pay taxes who will get sick of it one day.

Question What would George Washington say if he were alive today and then was transported back to his own time?

Answer "END SLAVERY NOW!!!!!!"   or "Daddy, we need to grow our own tobacco"

It's pointless to argue this until you get enough right enough leaning Republicans in the senate, and enough

Democrats to overturn this in the 2014 election cycle. Obamacare will implode on us and the government in the

meanwhile, shortly after it's total roll out, and will have caused much more damage than it helped.

So many have given up on this concept and continue to bitch about it, rather than campaign for a candidate. I

Sometimes, a mind can come up with a rational approach to a solution without having military or law enforcement

experience, although I am not snapping back at you or anyone for having it, and, thanks for your service. I mean it!

We get those generals at the voting both, at least the ones I think you are referring to. The civilian control of the

military is both a blessing and can be a curse with the wrong leadership, so, I agree with you on that, also.

I think it is more of a matter of timing with what you may be suggesting. It certainly will be a bridge we will have to

cross if things don't get corrected other ways.

We need our own version of an old fashioned "Soviet style purge" in our own political apparatchik within the Republican

Party, and soon. Or just flat out rejection of it and replacing the party with another, more conservative/libertarian party.

Within one year they too will be bought out and serve the same elite group that actually own and manipulate our so called "Representatives". Lobbyists and special pressure groups run the U.S. we ceased to have a true Republic with democratic principles way back  at the beginning of the 19th century. We live in a plutocracy of wealth and it is beyond our power to change it. It is too firmly entrenched. Sorry, but it has taken me 70 years to finally realize it myself.

Don't expect these Progressive RINO's to be real Conservatives and Libertarians when it comes down to it. They're wolves in sheep's clothing, basically Progressive Democrats running as Republicans.

If people would wake up and infiltrate both parties with real free-market constitutional Libertarians and Conservatives, things would start to improve.

I think the real conservatives and libertarians within Republican Party need to step up and kick some liberal ass.  The problem with the current situation is that Republicans have been way to damn modest.  They have been trying to pander to the liberal base hoping to win some favor.  It will never happen if they continue to do it that way.  They need to shed their "old rich white guy" image, embrace the libertarian movement, and show some damn backbone for a change.  It's time to take the gloves off.

The good thing is that I am starting to see this happen.  With firebrand Senators like Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio there is definitely hope.  My current fear is that the establishment Republicans (RINO's) will try to restrain them in an effort to toss out one of their own as a candidate.  I definitely see it happening and have already heard some names tossed out there.  Of course, a lot can happen between now and 2016.

The fight we need to concentrate on right now is 2014.  We need to keep the House of Representatives and take the Senate back.  I read today that a top Republican mentioned that they may try to impeach Obama in the not so distant future and he said it could be 2014 when they get around to trying.  No doubt that he is hoping for a Senate victory in 2014, which would give them the ability to take on the task.

We need to squash the progressive powerhouse and leave them so demoralized that it will take years for them to recover.

People keep electing these jackasses. Why would you think they'd be interested in doing anything different than what they've been doing?

And more people keep getting out of the process because they think the system is broke and can't be fixed, or

they are not interested any more in the process to do anything about it. Which are you? Or are you both?

Some people just want to find some minutiae out of basic ideas and argue them to Hell, instead of trying find some

common ground to work on fixing the problems. That alone, makes me cynical enough, but I have my ideas. I usually

throw them out here daily, with a little bitching of my own. Trouble is, when you give up and let the other side win the

battle, you leave yourself little wiggle room when things go different. Then, when someone comes along, it's "So and

so for President" and no thought about the other pieces that need to be fixed.

I think you know I'm no "reach across the aisle" kinda guy, so let's nip that in the bud, but giving up is no answer, and

cynicism won't fix a damned thing. Crush the Republican Party and rebuild it. Then move ahead with candidates who

will be accountable, if that means you running for office. All the internet experts ought to sit back and ponder before

they say I'm wrong. It may be the only course left for the republic, anyway, since we've left the ship swamped.

And for those who will point out every dumb thing a politician says, so what? Can you do better? I have to take some

time before I post, around here. I'm sure I screw up enough already. It's real easy criticizing on the internet when we

should be trying to find some common ground and working toward a goal. That's exactly what the other side does,

day by day. And whether they tell the truth or lie, they are winning their share of elections.

Weed out, grow the base of libertarian/Tea Party candidates and build the party back into what is supposed to be.

Unless you're waiting for an Obamaphone and an EBT card, yourself.

Happening every day.  Has to take place at the County level to work. Henry County just had a real RINO thrown out as County Chair-person, even had Chris Devaney (Tennessee Republican Party Chairman) there to watch as the Establishment took a whoopin', and a good man with real Conservative principals led 75 "strangers" to victory over the Elitist.  Stunned is the best term to describe the look on his face.

It can happen!
