Technically, though, 70% hits don't necessarily equal 70 points.
 
35 shots out of 50 that count is 70% hits but if they're not all in the 7 ring, wouldn't add up to 70 points, so wouldn't suffice, right?

As a instructor how do you deal with thru the same hole shots or blew out the center targets. <br /><br />I blew out the center on my exam at the shortest and made a X at the farthest. My instructor didn't even give my target more than a glance, but it's been a few years ago.

I'm not an instructor but I can tell you how mine scored the center blow-out.  I had a hole about 3 inches in diameter at the dead center of the target, around 8 or 10 rounds scattered around in the 7 ring and one in the silouette outside the 7 ring.  He scored it a 99, I'd guess assuming that since I was able to achieve a 3 inch group in the center then I probably didn't completely miss the paper with any significant number of rounds.

You'll shoot a total of 50 rounds, so if you get full credit for each shot they will be worth 2 points (or 2%) each.  If they are all within the scoring rings (which go from "X" in the center out to "7") you will get 2 points for each, or a total score of 100%.  Any shots outside the scoring rings, but still inside the silhouette, count 1 point (or 1%) each.  Any shots outside the silhouette count 0.

 

For example, let's say you shoot all 50 shots at the target and get 28 inside (or touching) the 7-ring.  That would give you a partial score of 56 (28 hits x 2 points each).  In addition you get 15 hits outside the scoring rings but inside the silhouette.  That would give you an additional 15 points (or 15%)(15 hits x 1 point each).  The remaining 7 shots were outside the silhouette and would be scored as a zero.  When you add the 56 and 15, your final score would be 71% and you would pass (barely).

 

If you have one gaping hole in the center of the target you will be awarded a score of 100.  Yes, maybe you got 49 through the hole and totally missed the paper with 1 shot -- but it's not likely, and even if that happened you obviously exceed the minimum standard to pass the firing portion of the class.

I don't see what the difficulty is. 7 yards is still a close range, easy shot.

 

I remember my HCP class being really simple basic stuff.

Well she aced the women's safety course with a 99% on the shooting part that used the new target the same as the new HCP course target. She would have had a 100% but one of the range officers touched her to try and get her to move closer to the target just as she pulled the trigger, but she atleast kept it in the blue on that shot even after being startled.

So since her confidence is high right now, I went ahead and signed her up for Saturday's HCP course at the same place.

I've done my best to prepare her and she didn't need any help and was praised by the teacher and fellow students for being able to handle her revolver like she's had it for years instead of only weeks. And i even went as far as making sure I had bought enough matched brand and load target ammo to cover both courses so she would be used to it and try to eliminate all variables from different loads. I hope she passes it all then it's off to expensively lol let her practice using the hydroshock 38 +p loads I bought for her to carry.

My class in 2000 there was a lady that had to borrow a gun for the test. It was a 4" .38 and she was about 75 years old. She could barely hold the pistol up long enough to squeeze the trigger. One of the instructors held out his hand so she could rest the pistol as she shot. She passed. That convinced me they would not let anybody fail.

She got nervous and missed the first TN shots then the instructor told her to calm down and slow down then she kept it all in the 7 ring after that even at the farthest range. Scored a 81%

She's actually pissed about the target since she did a 99% last week practicing lol.

Missed five on the written due go the word disallowed in the true or false. She kept reading it as allowed.

Congratulations. Tell her to keep practicing. The adrenaline will really be pumping if she ever "has" to use it.
