What do you think about him now?

Marco Rubio.

For months I have stated my dislike and distrust of Rubio.  I have said that he is only a younger version of McCain and those like him.  Anyway, it appears the Gang of Eight (McCain, Graham, Flake, Rubio, Menedez, Schumer, Durbin, and Bennett) will be releasing their 1,500 page immigration bill on Tuesday that will more than likely try to be rushed through the Senate.  I could be mistaken, but I recall another multiple thousand page piece of legislation that originated in the Senate and was rushed through the legislative process.  ;)  It didn't turn out so well for the American people.  Anytime Schumer is out promoting a bill and stating that it is a balanced approach, you know it is crap.

It is obvious that Rubio has his eye on the presidency for 2016.  If Rubio gets the nomination, I will more than likely be voting third party again.  Hillary is going to be almost impossible to beat in 2016, and if the GOP keeps promoting the same ol' crap, it is pretty much guaranteed defeat.  A pile of excrement in a bright new shiny package is still nothing more than a pile of excrement.

Just out of curiousity, how do you feel about him now?

You may be right about him. I don't know. I know I don't like the process about that immigration bill.

Charismatic political rock star, quick rise in popularity, with less than one term in national office.

Remind you of anyone?

If Rubio thinks we need more immigration laws than we already have then the cancer of big government has gotten to him. The gang of eight proves it.

A fresh face is good but not if he can't see what's outside the box.

Personally I think there are a lot more problems than immigration to worry about, just enforce the laws already on the books and do that with every issue. The whole fricking problem is too many laws and regs and idiots making new ones.

I am pretty much moderate on some aspects of immigration, meaning I do not want to deport all illegals currently here.  However, I do want to stop the flow and secure the border, and I want to get rid of all the enticements and incentives that encourage illegal immigration.  I am stunned that the Republicans are so stupid to think by pandering to the hispanic community and offering up amnesty they are going to secure the hispanic vote.  The last 40 years of presidential elections states otherwise.

                                        DEMOCRAT   REPUBLICAN
                          1972            64                      34
                          1976            76                      24
                          1980            55                      37
                          1984            62                      37
                          1988            69                      30
                          1992            61                      25
                          1996            72                      21
                          2000            62                      35
                          2004            53                      44
                          2008            67                      31
                          2012            71                      27

Reagan granted amnesty in 1986 under Simpson/Mazzoli, and the Republicans got a whopping 30% in 1988.  By doing the same thing this time, is the result somehow going to be different?  Sheesh.

While I couldn't care less about the Republican party, it does pain me to see they have been enacting some really stupid legislation over the last couple of years. Throw in this bill and you basically have legislation that will eventually make Democrats a permanent majority party.  When that happens, hello renewed AWB (or worse) which will pass.

I see myself supporting Ted Cruz or Rand Paul long before I'd support Rubio.  I don't believe in granting amnesty of any type to people that knowingly break our laws every day.  I've heard all of the arguments supporting Hispanics, and I agree with a lot of them.  Breaking the law is still breaking the law.  I find it strange to see so many Hispanics walking our streets, stores, and schools, and we know they're here illegally.

Just relegate yourself to the inevitable outcome of the Progressive Libtards leading the way to the New World Order that most of our prominent political hacks speak of. Yeah, some of the Rhino's are speaking of it too. I'm afraid our country will no longer remain the country we've known most of lives. When your representatives no longer represent your wishes, and the MSM no longer reports the truth, then we can no longer believe we have a representative republic, but only the beginnings of an enslaved socialist communist country. Get ready for the heavy chains of bondage, b/c it's not far off. Edited by ThePunisher

I too would like to see Rand Paul and Ted Cruz get the nomination. I sent an e-mail to the RNC a few months ago stating my choice for the candidates and have not received their reply in recognition of my e-mail. I guess they have other ideas.

I need to update my original post.  The immigration bill was not 1500 pages.  It was only 800.

I saw Rubio was on Rush today trying to sell his plan.  I didn't listen to it, but based on the transcripts, Rush ain't buying it.  A lot of people are kinda pissed at Rubio.  I am thankful people are starting to see him for who he is, which is just more of the same, only younger.

My reservations about rubio began with his disastrous 'response' to the state of the union. While the content was ok, and that's overlooking his seeming paradoxes of decrying big gov't while providing examples of how big gov't helped him & his. In the court of public opinion, he didn't engender support from mods, independents or libs.
My reservations were cemented during Rand's filibuster. Paul quoted from a dearth of libertarian & conservative commentators. Cruz quoted many conservative founders & justices. Both spoke eloqently & intelligently. Rubio on the other hand quoted pop culture icons like jayz & at one point made a nonsensical point which he acknowledged was meaningless. He was somewhat halting & inarticulate. Even freshman Tim Scott addressing the senate for the 1st time was more statesmanlike than rubio.
I cautioned a conservative friend not to hop on the rubio bandwagon a while back & it appears the prudence was wise indeed. I have no doubt he would not perform well against a smart lib in a televised debate. This was evidenced by him this weekend on all the Sunday shows adopting the language of the left & calling them undocumented immigrants a half dozen times on different shows. That's the fastest way to lose the argument.
No I'm afraid he is not the next great hope for the republican party. Whether he can be a successful conservative 2nd string will remain to be seen. Given his heritage & his family history I can somewhat lessen my condemnation of him for possessing such misguided opinions & being blinded to the reality of the problems. Regardless though I hardly think he's fit to run for pres, I would be hesistant to see him as a vp even, I would see it as a tactical move.
I like cruz.

I haven't been keeping up with Rubio so help me out here. What exactly do you not like about him?

He voted against the gun control bill yesterday unlike McCain so that's a plus.

Oh, he's a peck better than any of the progressives out there, and the GOP can always do worse (just look at our last two candidates).

I'm just advising caution. These political shooting stars that rise on the American Idol premise alone without much of a track record can simply become flash without substance.

Or substance that reveals itself to be far different than the packaging. I mean, even I didn't have any idea as to the extent of socio-fascism BHO would manifest, and pretty much right out of the gate, too. Hell, I almost voted for him in Dem primary in '07 just to help forestall Hillary, who I thought would be the worst imaginable scenario. Silly me.
