Well, since Sen. Corker replied to my email that he supported the 2nd Amendment and other Items and was graciously willing to send me a pdf on where he stood, I decided with his actions a reminder note was needed and sending the same pdf as a attachment to my email concerning his action:

Since the incident in Newton, CT, your constituents have called and emailed you concerning future Gun Bills that were being prepared and the President's views on where he wanted to take gun control. Expressing that the current laws in place work and they just need to be enforced, that mental health issues are the culprit in these mass shootings, and how law abiding citizens with a gun in their hand have trumped would be criminals. Apparently, this effort was in vain, as you elected to vote for the debates to continue. 

 

Apparently, the reply I received from the earlier email (I attached the PDF that was included) stated that you were for protecting the 2nd Amendment and our Right To Bear Arms. Obviously, this is no longer the case, I wish to inform you that on the next Election, I will not casting a vote in your favor, unless proven otherwise. 

 

As a veteran, one who was on call to deploy anywhere to execute National Policy, I hereby state that you have failed the people you represent, the people that voted you there to represent. I highly advise you to read the Oath that you took when you took office. I have included the Oath, I took when I enlisted, an oath that has no expiration date.

Sadly, I'm not as disappointed by Alexander. We already knew he batted for the other team.

 

Corker has a slightly better voting record in my opinion, so I had all my hopes riding on him.

Today, I voted to allow debate on gun legislation. I have an A+ rating from the NRA and have consistently worked to protect Second Amendment rights. My vote is in accord with the NRA’s position. I have never voted for gun control and will not do so. This begins a debate to put the Senate on record about a basic constitutional freedom. Bringing this bill to the floor gives us the opportunity to vote on measures to strengthen gun rights, such as an amendment to protect veterans from unfair restrictions when trying to purchase a firearm. I will filibuster passage of a final bill if it contains gun restrictions or a weapons ban.

And therein lies the problem.  I believe we have finally reached the tipping point in this current democracy where the lazy slobs sucking at the tit of government now outnumber the voters who work hard and hold to traditional values.  The dregs of society keep voting into power the people who will support their habits, and the rest of us keep footing the bill and forfeiting our freedoms.

I’m a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights. Congress should not pass laws that take away these rights from law abiding citizens and leave criminals to terrorize the streets. Good citizens don’t abuse guns – criminals do. I will continue to support legislative efforts to protect the Second Amendment rights of law abiding Americans, and oppose efforts to overturn the Second Amendment.

 

In two recent cases, the U.S. Supreme Court clearly held that the Second Amendment protects the right of individual Americans to keep and bear arms. In the 2008 case, D.C. v. Heller, the Supreme Court held that D.C.’s restrictive gun laws violated the constitutional rights of Americans. Two years later, in McDonald v. Chicago, the court struck down the city of Chicago’s handgun ban and held that, like the federal government, state and local governments must respect Second Amendment rights. I joined legal briefs in both cases in defense of this constitutional right and was pleased with the Supreme Court’s decisions.

In some ways I think posting on their Facebook pages is better. Mainly because unlike the many emails I have sent over the past few months these postings are public. They can help rally people.

 

It seems like it would be easier for a staffer to dismiss "X" number of emails because no one but the office staff knows how many were sent in, pro or con an issue. With Facebook being a public forum (mostly) ANYONE can see how much their constituency is upset and exactly why. That includes not only the Senator's Staff, but also those thinking about mounting a primary challenge against them. (And they know that.)

 

Hundreds of comments on their facebook posts can also bring more attention to their actions. Very similar to when a commercial business has to take time to respond and do damage control when negative reactions start to get posted on their wall.

 

A good solid way to vent disapproval. On a gun forum only gun guys (gals implied but not specifically stated)  will see it, send an email or call (which we still should) when only be seen by the staff, on Facebook you have a better chance of snowballing this and getting more attention.

 

Just a thought... I could be waay off base though.

It's beyond me how they can say that the votes today were only to move the issue forward for debate yada yada and that they fully support 2A yada yada......well, if you're such a staunch supporter, then why not make every effort to keep it from going any further period! This issue has been debated for months, you know where you stand. You either support our constitutional rights 100% or you don't.

I'm going to hold off on getting upset about today's vote to open debate until I see what they do to push for amendments to neuter this whole damn thing. If they do that, the whole thing goes up in smoke or we get something that has little effect anyway. I mean, I laugh at the push for background checks on online sales...we all know that sales actually consummated through the internet already go through FFLs and back ground checks anyway (C&R excepted of course).

  I may not understand the backroom deals that are made in DC, but I certainly understand the premise of keeping your word. It appears that you do not. This past election I voted straight Republican because I believed what you said were your values and the values of this country and the Constitution.

I hope you are ready to retire  from Tennessee politics because myself and every other gun owner and sportsman in Tennessee will be campaigning against you should you have the audacity to seek reelection.

Corker and Alexander emailed stating my displeasure. The state of the Republican Party is sad and frustrating to say the least. They are getting whipped big time at the national level. Senators Corker and Alexander (and others) missed a perfect opportunity to stand for something and now they stand for nothing! Especially not the constitution and the few Republicans that are carrying the Republic's torch. The move to Socialism is not pretty. I am going to voice MO to the NRA and tell them to toughen up on the rating system. To get an A you have to do better than the 16 that caved.
