Haslam.

I reckon the family aims for him to go all the way.

He's not a big state govenor, but a lot of people are talking about his ambitions for the White House.  They've certainly got the money to give it a go.

No Republican TN Senator has ever lost reelection primary in history. Hell, only one ever lost reelection.

So good look with those odds.

No Doubt you right OS.

But repeating the same behavior (voting for someone just because they have an "R" after their name) and expecting a different outcome ain't working out too well for us.

And Yes...it's obviously those with enough capital backing that have always won...but we still have to at least try and break the pattern.

It's frustrating always, today...pretty infuriating.

This statement from Corker's email yesterday:

"I believe in safeguarding the rights of law-abiding American citizens, and the right to own firearms for shooting, hunting, and self-protection is important to me as a Tennessean and as an American. Should legislation dealing with our Second Amendment rights come before the Senate, I will certainly take your concerns into consideration. I also wanted to share the steps I have taken to protect our Second Amendment rights in the attached "Policy Points" document. "

NEWS FLASH: all those "policy points" mean nothing today. What a hypocrite. What a sell out. I never thought Tennessee would be representing the left on a gun rights issue. This thing was 9 votes shy of stopping and we, yes we,  voted 100% to move forward.

What a slap in the face.

This was on Alexander's website:
WASHINGTON, April 12 – U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander
(R-Tenn.) today made the following statement on his decision to oppose an
amendment to expand background checks by Senators Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Joe
Manchin (D-W.Va.). Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has said the
Toomey-Manchin amendment will be the first to come up when the Senate begins
deliberation of gun legislation next week.

“I’ll examine each amendment to determine whether it
strengthens or infringes upon our Second Amendment rights,” Alexander said. “The
Toomey-Manchin proposal to expand background checks in my opinion doesn’t meet
that test and I will vote against it.”

You are so right.  Breaking the mold. It's the hardest to do.  Up until now, I've always considered a vote for an independent as wasted.  I'm looking at things a lot different now.  We'll see in the mid terms.

I'm really SICK AND TIRED of being cast aside after voting for the "R" ticket excusivly......maybe they need to be the third party for a change.

In that case, I hope you didn't vote for the Democrat running against them. One of them had a close race with Harold Ford Jr,

who doesn't live in Tennessee anymore, thankfully. I wonder what that vote would have been if Ford was our Senator? :D

Here's your sign, back.

But they do need to be primaried with someone better. If you could provide someone running against the two of them

as an alternative, I'd appreciate it if you would expose this tidbit of knowledge. Otherwise, there is one reason to vote

as you say.

I voted for the Democrat, Mark E. Clayton, who ran against Corker in 2012. I assure you that although he's a certifiable nut, he's more conservative both Corker and Alexander. I believe with all my heart he would have voted differently today, and would have better represented us than what we currently have.

I just send alexander this

"For someone who claims to be for our second Amendment rights, I can't understand why you would side with the gun grabbing liberals in letting this bill proceed. I can only hope that in spite of your actions we are able to defeat this travistity."

Tried to send it to corker but he has his webpage set up so it wont accept anything under the "email address" so it keeps kicking it back.

It's time people.

Typical sellout.....they both want the best of both worlds.....BS....I'll NOT vote for either one...even if I have to vote independent.....TOTAL BS....FROM THEM ALL....THEY CAN KISS MY ROSY RED ASS......

I'd run against them. I wouldn't have a chance of winning, but still would love to. I think I'd have a good platform.

-fiscal responsibility

-promotion of individual responsibility versus nanny state

-pro 2A

-common sense versus political popularity

I'm a 9 year veteran of the US Army, served in both OEF and OIF. BA in organizational management, graduated summa cum laude. I'd have a couple of things against me; definitely not a politician, I'm all about standing up for what I see as right (to the point where I will absolutely not back down) and I'm a social liberal on a few issues.

Oh and I'm not rich.

Yes I would vote for a democrat if they were strong second amendment. There cannot be anything worse than a traitor.these two sent me emails stating they would not vote for ANY gun control. I say band together and find a new tea party candidate who is not in some government pocket.

On a lighter note maybe Stacy Campfield will run against one of them.

Well, he'll probably do second stint as guv, and then just pretty much just buy Lamar's seat in 2020, as I think he'll pack it in after this time around.

Then again, Bill's maybe boring and bland enough to go for the GOP presidential nomination if he wants to grease the PR machine.

All Corker has ever said in his canned responses is "I will certainly take your concerns into consideration."  This means nothing and he isn't committing to anything by saying this.  Here is the letter I emailed to Corker and Alexander (much thanks to the akforum.net for crafting it)

Dear Elected Official,

On April 11th 2013, a majority of Senators in the United States Senate voted to allow Senate Bill 649 to move forward and potentially reach the President of the United States to be signed and become law. Senate Bill 649 is nothing more than an egregious affront to the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. To even bring it to the floor of the Senate is a betrayal of the Oath of Office for a U.S. Senator.

The title of Senate Bill 649 is “Safe Communities, Safe Schools Act of 2013”

I’m sorry, but I fail to see any narrative within this bill that protects our communities or our children. This bill does nothing but infringe on our ability as responsible law-abiding citizens to purchase or sell firearms used for the defense of our family, homes, and personal possessions. Additionally, I failed to find any narrative that actually provides armed security guard initiatives for our children that attend public schools. Included in S.649, “The School and Campus Safety Enhancements Act of 2013 - Amends the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to authorize school security grants by the DOJ Office of Community Oriented Policing Services to be used for the installation of surveillance equipment and the establishment of hotlines or tip lines for the reporting of potentially dangerous students and situations.” What does this do to prevent an “active shooter” within a public school? Why can’t our elected officials focus on the actual problem instead of meaningless legislation that infringes on responsible law-abiding citizen’s rights guaranteed by the Constitution?

Astonishingly, 68 of our United States Senators (Democrats and Republicans) ignored their Oath of Office to “Support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” I was shocked to see your name listed among those that betrayed the U.S. Senate Oath of Office. This is a direct betrayal of the Constitution of the United States. The same Constitution you took an oath to support and defend. This is word for word from the United States Senate website:

“Upon taking office, senators-elect must swear or affirm that they will "support and defend the Constitution." The president of the Senate or a surrogate administers the oath to newly elected or re-elected senators. The oath is required by the Constitution; the wording is prescribed by law.”

I asked that you support me in future votes and to not vote for legislation that does not address the problem. By infringing on my Second Amendment Right, you jeopardize my responsibility to protect my family, my home, and my personal possessions. If you remember United States Supreme Court Case 545 U.S. 748, Castle Rock v. Gonzales, the Court ruled 7-2 that a town and its police department could not be sued under 42 U.S.C. 1983 for failing to enforce a restraining order, which led to the murder of a woman’s three children by her estranged husband. In short, the police are not required or obligated to protect citizens. It is the citizen’s responsibility and right to protect themselves.

In closing, if you cannot support me as a constituent of this state, then I cannot and will not support you in future elections.  I will actively contribute my time and money against your future campaigns for office.

Respectfully,
