Confused about the new bill being introduced in the US Senate

Have I been missing out on something?  The latest bill, as I understand, will require gun show sales and internet sales to only happen with a  background check.  Have I been able to purchase firearms over the internet without a BC?  All I've ever bought that way, and that's several, were sent to an FFL where a background check was done, with the exception of a couple of black powder revolvers that I bought.  With respect to internet sales, how is this different?

My understanding is if the sale originated through an internet site, it would require the background check. For example if someone posted in the "for sale" section of TGO, that face to face transaction would require a background check. A word of mouth sale to a stranger would not. From what I've seen, this proposed legislation has holes so big you could drive a truck through them. What is a gun show sale? If the transaction is done in the parking lot, does it count? How about across the street? This "common sense" feel good legislation is a joke.

That's a proposed bill going to the senate floor sometime next week. It remains to be seen.

Make it simple for you.

ALL guns sales will require background check -- expect possibly gifting among family. Until we see actual text, we don't to what extent "family" is defined.

What's meant by "internet sales" are just what's done here on TGO or other websites, make private deals for selling guns in person or by mail.

What's meant by "gun show sales" are the guns bought and sold between individuals there, not from dealers.

Both terms are merely euphemisms for "no private sales".

Just how will enforcement be managed?  Observation of a illegal transfer, or a gun owner in possession of gun that was manufactured after a certain date and the owner has no evidence of a 4473 type transfer?

Just how will enforcement be managed?

Obama's Youth Army haunting gun shows and online ads, trying to make buys oughtta narrow most of it down before long. Seriously, ATF might become the ManPower of the federal government for awhile,  hiring lots of part-time folks, minimum wage and bonus for busts.

Would you sell to someone you didn't know, considering the stakes? Or someone you only "sorta" knew? First thing they'll do when folks are busted is get them to entrap others to get out from under.

In short, enforcement just like drugs and prostitution are done, one at a time, hoping that stops most of it. Which it will, among law abiding folks.

Very little.

Really good actually. I think the fix is in, Boehner will gather his RINOS and vote with the Democrats just like happened for cloture in the Senate, and before we know it, it will all be law.

If that happens i think the unemployment numbers will rise from the number of jobless Republican House members next time around. Some fresh new conservative Republicans would be a welcome change.

Will make no difference, once they get to Washington, they get "Life" and how passing legislation is like making sausage explained to them, and each is just like the other.

Our current two party system is out of control. The partys control the candidates like the mafia does where you have to be a "made man" to even hope to be on the ticket.

Not on the background check issue. Overwhelming support, even in NRA Grade A pol's districts.

And there would be a vote the next day in the house to remove Boehner as speaker.  This is a bill that he must have a majority of the majority on, or he'd lose his speakership the very next day.

Wellllll, thats simple.   The police or atf or someone will set up a sting by having some officer try to sell stuff out in the parking lot to folks.  Anyone bites, they get arrested.   Ditto for online ads like individuals buying and selling on gunbroker etc.   These stings will most likely target legit gun buyers; it is unlikely they will conduct them in the drug/gang/warzone sections of town.   The criminals will continue to steal guns and give/sell them to each other.  The straw buyers will continue to operate.  The bulk of the folks caught will not be felons or insane teens..... and the shootings will continue as the law will do zero to stop them.
