AR Mag Debate..

Recommended Posts

I'm not convinced there are any that don't work.

Bingo! I have them from several different manufacturers, some plastic, some steel, and every last one feeds reliably. I guess it depends on what you want from a magazine, but that's all I'm looking for.

I should probably have added: "except ProMags".

Well in mho, 10/20/30 rounders are pretty much the same across the board. Where I start running into problems is the higher caps like 50+. 98% of the Chinese stuff is crap in my experience. I mostly prefer made in America or Israel for the fewest bugs.

i also really like the Lancer Advanced Warfighter mag...

Funny that you mentioned the Lancer L5. I won a contest on Facebook, and as part of the prize package, I received one of the Lancer L5AWMs. It's a hybrid magazine, and I am very impressed so far. I literally just opened the box 10 minutes ago, so it hasn't seen any range time yet.

Great mags. I use them for .458 SOCOM. The lower grade Lancer mag isn't anything to write home about, but the AWM is Good.

I have several Brownells usgi mags and like them pretty well. My favorite usgi mags I have are bravo company. I bought 15 of them at a yard sale for $20 (luck was on my side that day haha). I don't know what's different about them, but they seem smoother and better fitting than other usgi mags I own. I also have several pmags and troy battle mags. I like the troy battle mags better than the pmags myself.

A great functioning cheap magazine I use all the time is the thermold 20 rounders. They're nothing fancy or pretty, but they have done what they're supposed to with no problems so far. Edited by LittleBear571

Maklarbak T-Mag

I was flipping through the latest Recoil magazine and came across a full page ad featuring the T-Mag made by Maklarbak. From the ad:"T-MAG is a highly durable polymer magasine, featuring constant curve internal geometry, stainless steel spring and of course, Maklarbak's Anti-tilt T-Follower.""Maklarbak's T-MAG makes sure you are warned when you have only one shot left in your T-MAG, by engaging the bolt stop as the second to last round is fired. This lets you chamber your last round BEFORE your mag-reload, giving you the possibility of engaging sudden threats, midway through your reload procedure."

I can't find any other info, and their website is under construction. I may give them a shot, but I have to say I'm skeptical. That 2nd to last round bolt hold open goes against years of training for most people. The only way I could see it working is by doing alot of training and by using those mags exclusively, because being able to transition back and forth from last round to 2nd to last round hold open would be almost impossible to remeber under pressure.

Well, I must admit that's kind of cool for those who would be most likely to use them in a real world practical way. You'd have to train that way though.

But certainly sounds like something that will become all the rage in the tactical mall commando community too. :)

Yep. They should change the manual of arms after 50 years. It's tired :)

I have Pmags, Brownells mags and some old pre 94 ban "GI" mags I got in 1999. During the great panic I painted them matte black and put in magpul followers. I can't tell any functional difference from the Brownell mags. My next AR mag purchase will be some 20 rd pmags and I wanna try out some of the TSD MAG15 mags and the Lancers,

Just be sure to get the Lancer Warfighters. The standard Lancers ain't anything special. The followers tilt. The followers in the Warfighter mags work just like PMAGS.
