I have little remorse for stupidty. No matter who's involved. Doubt he'll ever leave a loaded gun lying on the bed again, whether or not children and others are present.

I only have remorse that his innocent wife was the one killed by his carelessness/stupidity and some day that 3 yr old will grow up knowing they killed somebody (even though it was 0% their fault).

I have to say. . ."What's going on here"? There's been a rash of shootings and accidental discharges in the news for weeks now.

I'm not perfect but if somebody comes over and brings children, my gun's unloaded and put up where it can't be reached by little hands.

Too many people are ignorant of the basic rules of gun safety. And this guy is a deputy sheriff.

My wife and I were talking about this earlier.  As the parent of a 3 year old I've done what I think is best regarding my child and guns.  I have let her handle unloaded guns before, she knows that she can touch or hold as long as she asks me or her mom first.  We never leave any gun loaded or not unsecured but we told her that if she ever touches a gun without permission that we are going to give all of her toys away, and I told her that I was not even playing.  Kids are curious, we had rather her know what a gun is and what it looks like so hopefully if she ever encounters one she will know what to do, IMO much better than her finding a gun somewhere, not knowing what it is and playing with it.
