Work sharp knife and tool sharpener review.

I have never been the best at sharpening knives I can get a decent edge using a stone but never hair splitting sharp. I had considered purchasing a harbor freight belt sander just for sharpening but stumbled on the work sharp knife and tool sharpener at sportsmans. They had 2 different packages, one came with a carrying case and ceramic rod. I went with the bigger package for $99.

If you are not familiar with this system it is pretty much a belt sander with different blade guides. The belts are quick change and it comes with 3-80 grit, 3-220 grit, 3-6000 grit belts.

I was able to sharpen 5 kitchen knives, and 3 pocket knives to razor sharp in 10 minutes.

I made the mistake of touching my arm with one knife and it cut. Every knife was shaving sharp. I am very impressed with this system and would recommend it.

Also the belt head swivels and can be used as a regular grinder

Does this type reshape the blade in any way?

If you want it to it can. It seemed very forgiving though. Using the fine belt its near impossible to do any damage.
You can change the angle of your edge with it if needed. I have one knife that I am thinking about using all 3 belts on just to see what happens.

I love mine as I'm an idiot when it comes to sharpening with a stone......sharpened all of my kitchen knives, the wife's garden shears and several pocket knives to scary sharpness. I highly recommend it to those that are "sharpening challenged"....

Scary sharp for sure I am serious when I say I touched my arm with one of the kitchen knives and it cut! It was not a sawing motion I rested it on my arm with no pressure to see if it would shave.

Looks awesome

I used it to fix clay's "tipped" knife with it. worked pretty well for that too.

Looks sweet.  Do that have a guide for 15-17 degree edges, for my Japanese knives?

Got one of those myself.  It's a great tool.  I picked up mine to sharpen a couple of pretty good machetes that came to the house "so so" sharp.  Mine came from Northern Tool.   A few passes thru this little jewel, and they are pretty much shaving sharp.  They will cut thru the woody stuff with ease.  I havent tried mine on any household type knives, but im sure it will do a great job sharpening most anything.  Thanks for posting the review.

Thanks. I ordered one off Amazon, prime eligible. If it works as advertised I will be very happy.

Hmmm, looks interesting. I'm one that is stone challenged. I just recently got the DMT Magna guide system and it works okay but takes a little getting used to. Even with it I managed to get an edge off to one side on one of my Cold Steel Recon 1's. This looks like a better system for maintaining an even edge. Does anyone local carry these? I would love to see one before I actually bought it.

Sportsmans has it.

Awesome. Was going out there today anyway. How much was it? I noticed doing a search just now that Northern carries them.

Edit: Whoops, over looked the Sportsman mention in the original post.

The price was 99 for the one with the ceramic rod/bag/extra belts. Not sure how much the standard One was.

Oh and their customer service is top notch I got replies from 2 reps on one email (I asked if they were going to come out with a leather belt) answer is no because of the rpms it runs but they have a 6000 grit belt that works well and they said you can flip the belt over on that one because the backing is almost cloth like.

I'm really impressed with it and their company.

I may buy it. Do you think it will work well to center edges up that are off center? I've been trying all morning to get this one edge back to center, even with the guided DMT I can't seem to do it. It's hair shaving sharp{on one side} but it's off center. I'm about to give up. I bring the suck to knife sharpening. :surrender:
