Easy to repair truck?

Any one have suggestions for a used truck that's easy to do repair and maintenance on? I need something for working around the farm, but I can't afford to shell out the big bucks that mechanics want to install a forty dollar part. So I need suggestions for a pickup that is "shade tree mechanic" friendly. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Any older model GM or Ford will be as easy to work on as anything and parts availability is excellent.

Yeah I have an 86 ford with a straight 6 engine. Easy to work on.

I can see the engine unlike more modern trucks.

chevy s10, if you can use a smaller one, couldn't say anything about a full-size option. Everything on an S10 is dirt cheap because there are a billion of them around, and they are dependable as anything you could dream of.

If your just talking for around the farm where MPG is not an issue. I would suggest an older 78-79 Ford  F-series 4x4 truck. Simple design,no EFI to deal with and a bullet proof drive line. You would be hard pressed to find something around the farm these trucks cant handle.

Any old carburated full size would work well. I've got an 86 Dodge Ram that I've literally repaired parts of with bailing wire.

The Ford 300 inline 6 with sustain multiple rounds of .50 BMG! Well maybe not that tough but I have one and it won't die.

1970 - 1985 ford and/or chev truck will fit your bill.  easy to work on.

Gonna have to echo the Ford/Chevy sentiment.

 

A Ford 300ci with a toploader will do whatever you want and there isn't a part on it that costs more than $20 or an hour to replace.

 

A Chevy with a 350ci and TH350 is going to be the same. $20 and an hour.

 

Stay away from anything later than `85 as they started getting electric dohickies on them.

 

I prefer the 67-72 Ford the most, 73-79 next then the Chevrolet from 73-80. It is all aesthetics.

I had a 68 Chevy way back,  Even I could work on it.  Only had about a half a dozen parts as I recall.

I have an '88 F-150 4x4 with a 4 speed and a 300.  Absolutely bullet proof.  I let it sit for 6 years, put a battery and gas in it and it fired right up and ran like a champ.  It has either 200k or 300k on it, not sure.  And like the others have said very easy to work on.
