Obama Chides Pro-Gun Rights Advocates Who Say

They Need Guns To Defend Against The Government:

‘The Government Is Us’

by Noah Rothman

Speaking before an audience of law enforcement officers in Colorado about the need for stricter gun laws, President Barack Obama chided those gun rights advocates who claim they require firearms to protect themselves against the overreach of the federal government. The president said that these concerns were invalid. “The government’s us,” he said.

“The opponents of some of these common sense laws have ginned up fears among responsible gun owners that have nothing to do with what’s being proposed – nothing to do with the facts – but feeds into this suspicion about government,” Obama said.

“You hear some of these quotes: I need a gun to protect myself from the government,” he added. “We can’t do background checks because the government’s gonna come take my guns away.”

“The government’s us,” Obama countered. “These officials are elected by you. They are constrained as I am constrained, by a system that our founders put in place.”

“Surely, we can have a debate that’s not based on the notion, somehow, that you’re elected representatives are trying to do something to you other than potentially prevent another group of families from grieving the way the families of Aurora, or Newtown, or Columbine have grieved,” Obama concluded.

People do not trust the God-Emperor Barack Hussein Obama. People do not trust the thugs in the Obama regime. Obama and his minions have all lied too frequently to earn or maintain trust. People have concerns for their basic liberties because they have concerns for their basic liberties and these concerns are reasonable. The tremendous volume of gun and ammunition purchases across the country are a manifestation of this lack of trust. It is a negative vote of confidence and the God-Emperor Barack Hussein Obama and his minions need to work to regain the trust of the people, if that is even possible at this point. A simple speech saying "trust me" won´t cut it.

I wish the MFer would just cut to the chase and work towards a total turn them in gun ban.  At least I could respect that.

Instead he wants to do everything on the sly and through a back door.  That gains no respect.

I respect people who say what they mean and mean what they say even if I don't agree with their ideas.  At least they aren't playing people for fools.  Unlike the Big O

I see we woke up and were thinking about the same thing, this morning. :D Scary, isn't it?

Mike, that's in the works, and just on his terms.

I don't doubt that is his total intent.   I just don't respect his back door manuevers.  He is a chicken shit, no class liar and a user.  I respect for none of the three.

You're right. He is the king of the back door stuff. If Pelosi gets control of the House, again, it will become blatant,

just like Obamacare, except for the reading to understanding thing. That's why we need Donald Duck and Minnie

Mouse in the House to keep the perfect storm from happening.

I'd say the whole root of the problem - the reason so many folks are 'concerned' - is that the government is NOT us.  Hasn't been for quite some time.  The idea that we, the voting public, choose the government is an illusion.  Instead, we are given two (usually equally poor) candidates and lead to believe that our choice of one piss-poor candidate is any better than the other simply because he or she has an R or a D by their name.  Sadly, the reality is that neither of those candidates would have gotten so far as to be a choice without first being vetted by the real powers - the corporations and power brokers who really run the government and who couldn't care less about us, our wants or our needs.  No, the government is not 'us' and there is no fixing this at the ballot box.  We cannot vote in someone 'better' because someone 'better' will never get the backing of the major parties and the American voters don't have the cajones to vote for a candidate without that backing because they will continue to believe the BS that doing so is 'wasting their vote'.

How the F**K is he considered a Constitutional scholar when he has no clue that "protect us from the government" is EXACTLY what the 2nd amendment is for! It was put in to prevent the new government from doing to the people exactly what the old one did.

I'm actually of the camp that some of the state reps were in during the ratification of having the Constitution re-wrote to included the Bill of Rights issues within the body of document. When they just tack stuff on at the end it's real easy to feel like you can trim the fat so to speak.

How about turning the soap box over to these past presidents for a quote:

"When the people fear their government there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." – Thomas Jefferson

“The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed, which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.” – James Madison

“Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth.” – George Washington

Now, who are you going to believe?

 I am shocked that you don't believe Barack over Jefferson, Madison, and Washington

They were talking about muskets, a republic, and liberty. Those thoughts are outdated and have no place in a modern, common sense-based society. Edited by JWC

You get a piece of paper from an institute of higher learning when you graduate, and in this case we're still not quite

certain about that, but assuming he did, the piece of paper is toilet paper and the "constitutional" bit is a joke. More

like the Trotsky Institute for Advanced Communist Studies, maybe even Hahvad. I have a Columbia grad in the family

and she is a commie. I'm confident I'm not far off with the former.

Yep.  I generally reply, "Oh, so 'Freedom of the Press' only applies to newspapers and then only to those that are printed on hand-set printing presses.  It does not protect such uses of television, radio or the Internet nor does it protect newspapers that are formatted on computers and then printed via any type of automated or electronic means.  So, Freedom of Speech only applies to things said in person, perhaps on a 'stump' in the town square or at a local meeting - it does not apply to any electronically reproduced speech such as radio, television, the Internet nor does it apply to words spoken through an microphone/speaker, PA system or so on.  Of course 'Freedom of Religion' refers only to those religions and/or denominations that were in existence when the Constitution was drafted and signed.  Okay, then, if those things are all true then I guess it makes perfect sense that the Second Amendment only applies to muskets."

Obama has lived under the wing and been taught by most of this countries most radical socialist factions of our time. He was chosen years ago to push this country over the clift into socialism. I think it's going to take a miracle to stop him in todays liberal thinking society. EVEN THE RIGHT IS MOVING LEFT. really sucks.

Where might that common sense-based society be? Nothing about the Constitution is outdated. Barack's Marxist ideology is outdated and out of place for a Constitional Republic and people living with freedoms. Our Constitution is timeless for freedom loving people. Edited by ThePunisher

Why doesn't he ask US! what we think... instead of coming up with his own reasons... For one how about making huge corporations pay there fair share of taxes, instead of them getting back multi-million dollar refunds, why when i do my taxes they ask me if i have an off shore account on my meager salary...

Are you serious? Times have changed, so has technology, just like the tax code in 1903 was around 400 pages, now its almost 74,000 pages. It is very real if the government does not do something this economy will collapse and the american dollar will be worthless, and there will be a revolution. That's what happens when the american people are fed up with the government.

If you stop and consider it, corporations don't pay taxes, never have. Their customers have always paid their taxes; raise corporate taxes and you and I will pay them.

While working at the University of Chicago, Obama literally stated that he believes people should not be able to own guns. His voting record in Illinois backs it up. The company he keeps around him advocate for strict gun control. When he and Biden took suggestions for new gun control measures they only took advice from gun ban advocates.

He can spew worthless propaganda all he wants. Gun owners aren't buying it.
