Sundown in America--Op Ed story

I've quit reading the New York Times because of its intolerable elitist, leftist views (and that took many years) but I came across this on another website and was very moved by it.  From some brief internet searching, it looks like this piece has been getting a good bit of talk in the financial and political world.

It is an unflinching, brutally honest account of our country's finances, and I was very surprised that the NY Times, the throne upon which the socialist Paul Krugman sits, published it.

With all-time highs in the Dow and S&P, I hear more and more talk of a market crash as the bill for our government's unlimited spending and printing of money comes due, and they are probably right.  But who knows when that will happen.  I could see this Federal Reserve-induced sugar high lasting for a good while longer.  Maybe years.  And it could be extended even further with Congressional deals and deferments.  Markets are not known for their rationality.

But as the Bard said, something is rotten in the state of Denmark.  This isn't news to most people here.  Prepare accordingly.

Interesting article. I don't know what to say, but his comments about Milton Friedman don't jive with what I

remember. The Fed's role kept on expanding and Greenspan had to do some things He shouldn't have

been able to. The Fed should have just stuck to inflation. I agree with him about TARP. It should have been

allowed to fizzle out on its own. Yada yada yada. :D

He starts out with a bang and is right, from what I see, and our problem of coming off the gold standard was

a mistake, but the problem started way before then.

I kinda wished he titled his story "The Forced Corruption of Capitalism in America" because I think that's what it is.

TARP, AIG, GM, Lehman Brothers, just too much to make me think otherwise.

Atlas will shrug because of this and a lot of other things.
