Totally pointless. Even the board that passed it admits it. We need worthy actions, not pointless news blips.

Politicians encouraging, rather than infringing on the 2nd Amendment, pointless.

Showing that a community with a lot of guns can still be non-violent, pointless.

Bringing a completely different point of view to the current gun debate, absolutely pointless.

In Tennessee there are hundreds of communities smaller than Nelson, Georgia but not one has had the courage to do something like this. As a matter of fact, most wont even allow HCP holders the right to carry in a park.

 

I salute their stance. :usa:   It may not be significant to the world but, it's the right thing to do at a time when the right thing is hard to find.

But it is not the right thing to do, at all.   It dictates that people spend their money to purchase a gun, which is like a new tax:  by order of the king ye must go forth and spend thy money to purchase a firearm lest ye be send to jail.   What??   This is EXACTLY LIKE OBAMACARE.  

 

Supporting the 2nd is good, but this is very, very bad. 

 

If they want to support the 2nd there are millions of ways to do that.  Step 1 is to repeal and remove all existing local gun laws, step 2 is to attack the state's gun laws, and step 3 is to attack the federal laws, for one obvious approach.  Constitutional carry is a good approach.   There are many other great examples of good pro 2nd laws and things to do.

It's a nice, albeit pointless, gesture. It exempts felons (the norm), the mentally ill (the norm), and those that don't WANT to own a firearm (the norm).

If you read the story, you missed some points.

Not that every household must go out and purchase a firearm.

 

The ordinance exempts convicted felons and those who suffer from certain physical or mental disabilities, as well as anyone who objects to gun ownership. The ordinance also doesn't include any penalty for those who don't comply.

 

But backers said they wanted to make a statement about gun rights at a time when President Barack Obama and some states are pushing for more restrictions in the wake of the Connecticut elementary school massacre in December that left 20 children and six educators dead.

It doesn't dictate they buy a gun and there is no penalty or jail time.

 

It's simply meant as a statement supporting gun rights.

Actually, if passed by Ordinance it would be municipal 'law.'  Whether they choose to enforce that law is discretionary [granted not the wisest apprach].  If passed by Resolution it would have been merely a 'statement' of their sympathy with the cause.
