GA-TN Border War Rearing Its Ugly Head Again!

Earlier this month, both houses of the Georgia state legislature passed a law instructing the state Attorney General to sue the state of Tennessee over a disputed border near Chattanooga.  The reason?  They want the water flowing down the Tennessee River!  On 3/26/13, Governor Haslam basically told GA to FOAD.

 

This move by GA affects not just TN residents on their source for fresh water, but also residents of Alabama and Mississippi.  

 

Furthermore, if GA wins and starts drawing off water, all fisheries downstream from Nickajack will be extremely adversely affected.  The reservoirs include: Lakes Guntersville, Wheeler, Wilson, PIckwick, and Kentucky.  Can you imagine the Big G without any grass (because the shallows are exposed to air)?  Can you imagine the effects on the wonderful smallmouth in Pickwick if the spawning shoals are exposed to air?  And then if the fisheries decline, there will be no more BASS tournaments, which will have an economic impact.

 

Therefore, I encourage you to call the Governor's office and thank him for his stance on this issue.

Yeah gubbernor isn't interested in doin anything to drain TN financial resources including tourism. We should probably lob some artillery shells over the demilitarized zone to remind GA who their papa is

Atlanta is the problem, not their water supply. A city just cant outgrow their resources. They had no water plan in place from the beginning and still don't. All they have is an insatiable appetite for growth. During the drought of 2007, they tried to force the Corp of Engineers to stop taking water from lake Lanier that is used by parts of Alabama and Florida. They wanted to hand their problem to somebody else so their party could continue. Same with this plan to take water from the Tennessee River. They want water and don't give a crap how it will affect others.

It's our water, tn stole it. But really nothing is going to happen, Atlanta is to big and they just want to keep growing, where I live our water comes from a stream then on to TN,and even in drought we had water and still sent plenty down stream to TN , And glad we do so. 8th time GA has sued since late 1800's.   IMO,  the Supreme Court will uphold TN again because the line was drawn using the technology and skills of the time, not today's methods, GPS, etc.  (The line was supposed to be the 38th parallel but they went too low.)    To rule otherwise would set off a firestorm of suits between numerous states, particularly out west where water is a major issue.    I am not a lawyer, never played one on TV, and didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, just makes sense to me.            Besides, the Tennessee Rv drains into  the Ohio Rv watershed and all of GA is in the Mobile watershed.   Get your water from your own sources.  You'd have to pipe it over the mountains to Atlanta so why not pipe it from south GA or east AL.

within their means & plan ahead.

Pretty much every big city has outgrown its resources. It's the American way.  Use all you want and buy more and throw away what you don't think you will need.  You can always buy more tomorrow.
