Weaver-style scope mount bases - levergun

I have a simple question regarding weaver-style scope base mounts. I have a Marlin 336RC levergun that I've had for 26 years. When I was 15, my dad and I took it to a local gunsmith for tap and drill for a scope. The scope, rings, and mounts are now long gone, but I'm ready to put a scope back on it for deer this year.

From my research, I can find no measurements of any of the mounts now made for the leverguns, but I'm relatively sure they won't match up to my home-made drill and tap jobber. There is some level of uniformity in the holes themselves, where both sets are 0.5" on-center. Soooo...

If I knew that weaver-style two piece mounts had holes that were 0.5" oc, I could mount two of them and be done with it. However, I need to make sure that the mounts will fit the flat-top receiver that is the Marlin side-ejector style gun.

Basically, is 0.5" the standard hole spacing on Weaver-style base mounts? If so, I'm sure I could find some mounts that were flat-bottomed and would mount easily? Or maybe I'd get lucky and a single mount base would fit...!!!??? (FAT chance).

Here's hoping this is an easy process....

Thanks fellas.

+1000 for a forward thinking gunsmith from 26 years ago... Got the Weaver one-piece mount today, that is listed as compatible for the 336.

Never would have guessed that it would fit a home-made drill and tap, but it fit like a glove!

Yay, me!

Now I have to scope it...
