Pics of the "Glock Smile"

Recommended Posts

Loading the Glock 10mm with a factory barrel is a great way to run up your brass costs.  Save up, get a 6" LW or KKM barrel and enjoy your nuclear rounds.

On a positive note the Gen4 Glock 20 factory barrel is pretty well supported very close to my LW.

Just because you don't see the smile doesn't mean you are not over pressure.  A lot of guys have talked about getting smiles with a stock barrel but then they go away with an aftermarket.  If you are over book loads, you are probably over pressure.  You can still get pressure signs when not over book loads, it just depends on your equipment.  The aftermarket barrel may give you a little more safety margin, but you can still be over pressure.

If you are not loading with a chronograph, especially for hot loads like 10mm, you are treading on dangerous ground.  I have increased loads and seen no increase in speed.  I had no pressure signs, but would not have known to stop going up in powder without the chrono.

Aftermarket barrels are an answer to some questions, but not for nuclear power in a system that can't handle it.

Remember that bullet setback increases pressure also...You can have a perfectly sane load ,but it still blow up your gun because it slammed into the ramp to hard or too many times and pushed the bullet back a fraction.

That is why factory .40 rounds are also pre-treated upon loading with an adhesive - To help combat setback.  This is what was really blowing up the early glocks (Unsupported chamber + High pressure .40 + Bullet setback from putting the same bullet in the chamber again and again when loading your combat/SD piece)
