ARAK-21.... thoughts?

I just saw these in recoil magazine and looked them up. They are made by faxon firearms and they are basically a completely redesigned upper that will use any AR lower. It has a long stroke ak-like piston and comes chambered in 5.56 or .300 blk. Price is $1200 with one barrel or $1400 with 2 and barrels are for sale indivdually. Barrel swap takes 6 screws. I'm gonna start saving and invest in one I do believe. Though I'd like to see some more range reports first.

Spots, did you ever invest in one of these? I have been really impressed by what I have seen.

I did not. Someone here has one, but I don't remember who atm. I still love them, I just have't scratched up the cash yet.

Tapatalk ate my spelling.

I just see no need for a piston AR... DI guns work as well as anything.  Adding a piston is actually moving backward technologically speaking.

As for a quick-change barrel, what good is it on a semi-auto rifle?  If you change calibers or lengths, your zero is going to be useless with iron or an optic.  With any AR you can swap entire uppers, including the sighting system, and be ready to go.

Just my two cents... I applaud anybody going out and turning metal into gun parts... I just don't need this one.  :usa:

I agree. The market is expanding wildly and we will see a lot of things coming in the future. The issue for some is that as deviate from the AR platform the costs increase. The AR10 is a good example; there is no standard and so the options are expensive.

I would like to see the designers quit chasing the muticaliber AR platform and spend their engineering time on new rifles and platforms. The AR is 55 years old; time for change.

I wasnt as impressed with the barrel change from .223 to 300BLK as I was the engineering aspect of the weapon.  300BLK is kinda a ho-hum choice for me, now if they could get a .308 change on the other hand.......
