Opening Day Turkey's

Had a great opening day this morning.  In the woods and setup around 6:15 and heard quite a bit of gobbling.  Watched a couple about 200 yards off and then later here comes a group of 4 Gobblers.  Once they spotted my decoy, they attacked it like no ones business.  Me and my buddy were in our blind and both took one at 15-20yds at the same time.  

 

They were each around 16-18lbs.  Mine had 1" Spurs and 9" beard.  His had 1-1/8 Spurs and 9.5" beard.

 

Leaving the property by 9:00 and back home and cleaned up by 10:30.  Not a bad morning.

I just eat the breast on wild turkey's.  I have the breast brining today and will smoke it tomorrow for dinner.

That's awesome. I roosted a couple of birds with the intention of hunting them today. However, I've been fighting a cold and just didn't feel like going out this morning. I'll be out after them sometime next week.

Nice birds!  I got skunked but that's why it's turkey huntin', not turkey killin'.  Better than working.

Yeah, I expected a less successful day, but can't complain, especially considering I forgot my call at home.  Maybe that is telling me something.  I think it also helps that there aren't many hunters around my buddies land.  After we shot our two, the other two just stood there like they didn't know what happened.  We could have easily had two more.

 

The only thing that would have topped this was the coyote that came in right after we shot them.  He got to about 70 yards from us, but all we had was our shotguns.  He got a whiff of us and took off.  We were really waiting for him to get within shooting distance, but no such luck.
