That is one of the main reasons Music City Tactical Shooters started Team MCTS. We try to group with the new shooters and coach them before, during and after the match. I hope we have helped some of them feel more comfortable and improve their skills.

That's funny we've shot a bunch of times together, you've given me all kinds of advice, all kinds of books to read... ... and I'm still slow! :-) When do the skilz kick in!!! J/K I agree, shooting with MCTS is great and I really did get a hell of a lot faster AND more accurate under their tutelage. Thanks again to Rick, Michael and Norma!!

That is what we are here for!  This is a new thing in this area and it is progressing like I want it to be.  There is still room for improvement.  This experiment so far has been good for the club but better for the newer shooters wanting to learn the sport.  When I first started, this type of help was what you picked up on the range watching other people shoot.  No club had a dedicated team for others to get better.

Thats my favorite part of IDPA is when I get to shoot with new shooters. A couple of weeks ago at ORSA I had 2 new shooters in my squad, one that I knew and one I didnt. I stayed with them and explained the stages, how it would be best for them, and safest, for them to shoot it, and I ran the timer while they shot so I could walk them through if need be. Thats truly a joy for me, seeing more people get involved with shooting sports. I dont know how much help I could be to someone after their first couple of matches though lol

Thats what I told Craig Buckland at FL State. I said if you have any questions on how to shoot the stage since we are both shooting CDP, just watch me......And do the opposite lol

James shoots a stage pure SSP and I shoot hybrid SSP/CDP because sometimes I think a RWR is faster than shoot, pull back, reload, re-aquire the target (if you dont forget it) and shoot

I don't run pure SSP, since I've figured out that I can do it, I'm always looking for places where I can do a RWR while I'm on the move.

The reason you run the way you do has nothing to do with reaquiring targets, it's because you shoot every target 3 times and need more ammo! lol

I'm gonna get you a hat made that has "3T" on the front.

Im constantly looking at possible places to tac load because I hate running dry and having to reacquire the same target again

Yup!

My first Platoon Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne was always yelling.....,

"If You Ain't SHOOTING - - - Be RELOADING - - - If You Ain't Shooting or Reloading - - - Be MOVING or DIGGING IN....!"

The man understood Combat.

His lessons still stick with me.

I would not mind doing a begnners IDPA class. I can most likely use the classroom at Gallatin Gun Club and do drills off the pistol end of the rifle range. I would have to get with the other club officers and work out the details.

As long as you behind cover regardless of next or previous threat targets. As a CDP shooter I do many more Tac loads than others.

always ask, it should okay and thats the way to do it, but i have seen it go both ways.

Norma and Ricky (Brooks) both pointed out a time and effort waster I was doing. I just wish things hadn't changed for what weekends I have my kids!

But I do agree that a run without the timer going would be better! And even more so - the feedback of what was done well and not so well... the few times I have shot a course (6 or less) I always at least try to not go first, just to get an idea of what to expect.
