Wilson Combat Chris Reeve Startac

Recommended Posts

I finally broke down and ordered a Wilson Combat Startac,

I previously owned a Chris Reeve Umnumzaan and did not really care for it compared to my Sebenzas, but after meeting Major Kong I was extremely impressed with his, I am not sure exactly what Bill Wilson and company do to the knife aside from the starburst inlays in the titanium handles but I loved his enough to order myself another expensive knife!

Damn you Fred!!!! LOL

Anyway I hope to have my new knife by the end of the week!

I don't believe Wilson does anything to the knives.  I believe the Starbenza and Startac are the best of the standard Sebenza line.  I had two Startacs, but sold one of them to Fred, which I sort of regretted.  :)  I still carry my Starbenza daily.

I am glad they polished up the lockbar stabilizer on the new Startacs by putting their logo on it.  When they first put them on the Startac, it looked absolutely terrible, and in my opinion, ruined the aesthetics of the knife.  I made a post on BF suggesting they put their logo on the stabilizer to improve the appearance.  CR ended up doing that very thing.  I wonder if my post gave them any ideas. ;)

Eric,

I loved Fred's that is why I bought mine, yes I called and asked Heather at CRK she confirmed Wilson just allows them to use their Star pattern on the scales. I am not sure exactly what version of Umnumzaan I had previously but I assure you that it failed to compare to the one that you sold Kong,

I haven't regretted it for one minute Eric. It gets carried daily and is well loved :D

I was pleased to see that the Startac now uses the same pivot screw as the 25. I have to say that this thing opens for me nearly as quick as any knife I have ever owned. This knife comes with a simple piece of paper from CR knives that shows how to open the knife properly. My last one was missing that paper so i am sure i was trying to open it wrong and got frustrated with it but after reading the paper and after about 10 minutes of practice it opens for me nearly as fast as an RJ Martin Q36

I absolutely love this Startac it is buttery smooth out of the box a fantastic carry knife!

<----- Thread crapper.

To all CR owners:  Do you carry your CR knives with the laynard or without it?  I think it sort of gets in the way, so I take mine off.

By the way, nice knife Steve.

I carry them all with the lanyard on with no problems, how does it hinder your knifes Eric?

Oh, it doesn't hinder it in anyway.  It is just sort of a nuisance sticking out of my pocket.  It is just personal preference not having it on there.

Got ya,

I always carry my pocket knives in my watch pocket of my jeans, I find the laynard to be usefull I keep one on all of my carry knives. I have read on some knife forums where people have said the laynard has got in the way of the blade closing, personally I have never encountered that problem

Eric, if you want to fill in the hole where the lanyard pin goes you can take undo the paracord and cut off just enough of it to where you can light it and push it down on the pin on both side. What it does is keeps the pin from falling out of the knife, but fills in the holes on the scales.

Terrible confession time:  To me, the most interesting thing in thing in this thread is that paper on how to open the Startac.  Could I get a picture of it?  I would like to read it.
