1917 Eddystone 30-06?

Awesome rifles and as accurate as any other mil-surp bolt actions.  Ridiculously over-built receiver.  Many were rechambered back in the day for magnum powered loads.

Can't see the link as I ain't logging in but a bubbaed mil-surp, especially an American one, to me is worth no more than the average run of the mill Mosin.  Personally, I will never own one if it could not be restored and it sounds like it might be past the point of no return.

Here is what one is supposed to look like:

A sporterized Mosin vs a sporterized 1917. C'mon guys, you take the 1917 all day! I have seen the pictures though it is not that bad.

I did not see the part about it being a sporterized mosin?

Me neither. Where does it say that?

I'd trade a Mosin for it if I had a few extra.  Totally unsalvageable as an M1917 as it's been permanently altered but it probably is fine shooter if you want to get into 30-06.

If you really want to make the deal I would make sure the receiver is not cracked, a known issue with Eddystones during barrel replacement.

That being said, if it was ME, I wouldn't even touch it, literally. If it was laying on a table at a gunshow or behind the counter at a pawn shop I wouldn't touch it or ask to see it.  But I'm a mil-surp snob purist.

If I had a extra Mosin and it was not a rare example, I trade in a heartbeat. I'd want to look at the Eddystone first though.

No collector value in it whatsoever. It might be a good shooter, and therein lies what value it has. I'd probably trade, as I like tinkering with stuff like that, and I'm not that big a Mosin fan.

If you can trade a $100 Mosin for it and decide you don't like it, I'd give you your $100 back for the 06....+ another $50 for the reciever sight, assuming there's nothing wrong I'm not seeing in the pictures.

The old Remington Model 30 was just a sporterized M1917.  Remington made a boatload of them during WWI at their Eddystone factory.  After WWI, they continued making them for the US market.  Model 30s were known as very strong and accurate rifles.

That poor, abused 1917 would make a good candidate for remaking it in .416 Remington.  Everyone needs a good Safari rifle.  Good for hunting Smoky Mountain Hefalumps.  Or Bigfoot.  Is the plural of Bigfoot 'Bigfeet'?
