Lead/Cast bullets vs FMJ

From a standpoint of just target shooting/plinking is there any advantage to FMJ or cast or plain lead bullets?  From what I see FMJ will cost you about twice the price of lead.  It seems like for putting a few hundred holes in paper on a Saturday afternoon lead is an easy choice.

I believe you answered your own question.  That being said, it is generally not advisable to shoot lead pills out of a polygonaly rifled barrel such as a Glock due to concerns of excessive lead build-up and subsequent elevations in pressure.

Thanks, that's all kind of what I'd figured.  I'd read here and there about the issues with Glocks and lead bullets, since I'm currently only reloading for my Ruger p95 that shouldn't be an issue.

I'll take lead over a fmj for ANYTHING. Even if I were looking for deep penetration, I can get a lead bullet in there as far as any fmj. I can water drop straight wheel weights and get it hard enough it will not expand at all.

I'll also take a cast lead bullet over almost any other copper condom out there. There's very little a jacket can do that a PROPERLY PREPARED cast load cannot do. .....cheaper.

Over the weekend I shot some 308's I loaded for a friend's hunting rifle. Without boring details, it penetrated 4 gallon jugs of water and mushroomed from .311 to just over .650. The first two jugs were shredded to pieces.
This is a light load and recoil is about like a .223. Accuracy was inside 2 inches at fifty yards and that's a ten shot group, btw.
...Ohh yeah, it cost me about $7 for the fifty rounds we fired. Edited by Caster

I've been shooting my lead loads through my Glock stock barrel without any problems so far. Mind you, I don't shoot more than 100 in an outing. I also put one FMJ in the mag first to chase the lead rounds. I actually recovered one of the FMJ out of my backstop and you could see some lead stripes on it but nothing bad.
